Last weekend I suddenly got probs with my left hand/arm. The hand feels deaf and I can't really use it. The neurologist (it was the chief of neurologic department) said that it is the medianus nerve and it will get better.:(
Did I mention that I am left handed (and right hand playing)?

Dude, that really sucks! Take it from me, fully rest and heal before you go back at it. Take the extra week or two now rather than furthering damage and having worse probs down the road! Good luck and speedy recovery.

If it is anything like carpal tunnel, a simple wrist brace will help. It keeps the wrist/hand from bending in awkward angles and relaxes the cause of the problem. This is especially true at night when sleeping. I would ask your health care professional if this would help. A simple wrist brace that goes over the wrist and over the palm with a cross piece that goes from between the thumb and index finger to the back of the hand is available at most drug stores or pharmacy section at big box stores. Hope this helps. Sorry for your injury, hope you heal quickly.

I played with this cat back in AZ that had carpal tunnel so bad he had both hands/wrists operated on. Took him a long time, but he's jamming just as good as ever now and is more careful with his wrists and hands. Hope it works out for you!

i had something kinda like that happening for a while, and it scared the crap outta me. the 3rd and 4th fingers on my left hand would feel like someone shot novacaine into them. some days they had just totally zero sensation in them and felt dead, and somedays they tingled and felt like they had circulation cut off. that went on and on for months, then out of nowhere, it vanished, and i was finally once again able to flip someone a properly shaped bird.

That happened to me Chuck...a few years back. After tests they discovered it was the nerve. It got better after a couple of weeks. Really scarey though :(

This can also happen when you fight your natural desire to be a lefty...

I don't think that this is the reason. Back in 1964 when I learned writing in school I had to fight being lefty. Meanwhile the only thing I do righthanded is playing bass. I started to play when I had almost forgotten that I am left handed. At the age of 22 I remembered that I am a lefty guy and did any work on the right side, the left side. More than 30 years now and I feel well.
I go to the hospital this afternoon for doing tests and will tell you.
Thanks for your thoughts, own stories and wishes.

You can't get away from human nature, ...I wish You fast recover and good health!

P.S. ...I was recently on medical therapy just for left hand nerves (low amperage AC current from shoulder to fingers), now I feel much better! Ask Your doctor about that, it really helps!

Good luck!

I had a EMG test yesterday, no pickup but electromyographic test. No bad damage, the medianus nerve seems to recover quickly. No therapy needed but it takes some time...

Great news, hang in there. Don't jump back to quickly, allow enough time to heal. You don't need to get sent back to square one rushing things.

I heard Uriah Heep's "Lady In Black" on the radio and took the bass... With pick because I could not cut the finger nails using that left hand. It worked... ;)
