Case for Petrucci Model

Hello all,

I just put in an order for a Petrucci 6 String and a 7 String. Do they still come in those generic plastic oversize cases, or has there been a case change for them?

My original Ernie Ball Luke came in a beautiful G&G case, so I was a little surprised to hear that the Petrucci guitars (which are more expensive) are only coming in generic cases.

Has anybody had any luck finding good aftermarket cases for these? I'd like to avoid the weight of a full bore flight case (I mean, if I have to resort to this, I will), but at the same time I want to protect the guitars.

I'm sure this was a topic that has been beat to death in the past, but I'm relatively new to the board, so I haven't seen many ideas on this.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

I purchased a JP back in March, and they are still being shipped in the generic cases. Unusual for a high end guitar.

Not thee greg in vegas from Rome's show?

I'm a proud owner of 5 balls. all came with generic flight case. Lighter in weight, which is good. Subject to warping and connecting strap breakage which is bad.

Found the ebmm plush gig bag to be a pretty good investment. Got 2 for 20 bucks/ea at gc. Usually just toss (gently place) axes in them when going to rehearsal. Caution...storage pocket space is lacking in these babies.

DistVibrations:

The inside of the case does not fit the guitar snugly, so it's possible for the guitar to move around in there a bit. My JP arrived in flawless condition, no stress cracks. One thing I do like about the case is that you don't have to remove the trem arm when closing it. It's just odd that an incredible guitar comes with a very ordinary case, which could be said for other EBMM models as well, not just the JP.

But when I had my Luke with the G&G case, the case was designed to close with the Floyd arm on as well. And it really fit the guitar well.

It wasn't form fitting, but the guitar didn't move around inside the case. Really nice cases.

If the plastic Generic cases are the ones that they are still shipping the Petrucci's in, I guess I better start pricing out some G&G's or Calzone cases for them.

Thanks all,

Greg

i asked someone this same question on the petrucci boards and he said that the sases are now ifferent and fit the guitar a lot better is this true or is he just insane?

I ordered my JP back in February of this year, and received it in March. I guess it's possible that the inside of the case has changed since then, but I haven't heard anything about it.

This is the best place to ask you question regarding the cases, as EB reps can personally respond. And no, I'm not insane, just a member of the EB board as well. :)

EB won't mod or custom the JP guitars because they want them to be just as John plays them...I wanted larger frets...that's just me.

What sort of cases does John get?

Love the guitar but I'm serious...I would negotiate a lot harder and question the value of the package when making my next purchase...eg case delete option so that I could but a real one. So jack up the price a few bucks and give me a case to suite the excellent guitar inside (value added).

I would figure that JP, since he probably has about 20 of these on tours, would have his in shockproof and foam laden Anvil type casings.

Whether EBMM would foot the bill on this is anyone's guess, but I'd put my money on the fact that they didn't.

Just my take...
