Do the toilets really swirl backwards?

Toilets swirl in the direction the water is pointed in... if the little hose is pointed to the left, the water will swirl to the left, etc. just like when you go to science museums and drop a penny in one of those big funnell things. Whatever side of the equator you are on makes no difference.
