After a year of tweaking and listening to recordings in a band context, I think I favor all knobs (but the piezo set close to 0) at center detent

Nice choice by the designers - deep, thick, cutting tone with lots of definition.

Game changer??? Nah - I think I would be happier with crazy glue to hold the settings in place on my basses.

I actually prefer the "non center detent" knobs on my SR Classic. I don't feel obligated to start at a certain spot, then adjust from there!

I think both center detent and non-detent EQs are good. I am one of those mess with the EQ until you understand their functions and make it part of you sound sculpting. Just like learning the setting and range on your amp(s) or effects or whatever gets you the sound/tone/mojo you are looking for.

I like having options as opposed to being stuck with vanilla even though I want vanilla once in a while :)

Settings flat seems to give very nice solid neutral tone but sometime I need to shift my perspective (tonal voice) depending on the song, style or setting.

Is your bass set at center detent too? I can see mids, and maybe even treble (although I've yet to keep treble flat). But with the bass set to center, and the amp flat, I never feel it produces enough bottom. I'm always boosting the bass a little (3/4 maybe).

Hmmm, I can't wait to get home and try out these radical settings. ;)

I actually never end up staying with settings flat. I use that as a starting point and then teak to my musical 'mood' or what sounds good in the mix.

I love the Bongo 4EQ and the 25th options with the passive/active as well as 4EQ, the pickup selections and the EB coated strings....whoa!?!....I started getting that weird sweaty feeling with my heart thumping...better take a break...I'll be back....:D

I find on the Bongo 5HH the bass boost knob give a TON of boost - I rarely use it.

In my original post I was referring to ALL EQ & pickup pan knobs set to center detent.

That is my starting point and teak from there :)

Love having options. Let's us personalize our individual voices with the same tool. Kind of like paint and brushes in the hands of different artists. Some painter modify their brushes and/or paints. We get to do the same or just use as is.

It's all good as long as you get to express what you need to get out.;)

On my behringer practice amp I can dime all 4 eq knobs and run my volume on a 1/4, very cool tone. Kind of like I use to run other basses, all knobs wide open. Try that on my markbass 800 and it won't take it, probably for the better.

Those highly tweakable knobs were put there for a reason, no? :)
Only one I never change is volume, the other ones will be slightly different depending on band or song even. But I agree to some extent, center detent is also a great sound.

uh... nevermind

On further review it depends on the mix/room/instrumentation

I tend to like some piezo and low mids now...
