Just saw a brand new Axis on sale on fleabay and noticed it no longer had the neck through screws for the Floyd nut. When did this change occur?

Yup, Pacific Blueburst thats on for sale now. Maybe they screwed up the photos but I've never seen a Axis with a Floyd that didn't have the neck through screws
It's a new design actually. The screws enter from the fretboard side of the neck for the nut. Also the bridge is different. The new bridge utilizes the Petrucci trem arm so that you can pop it in and out like our other tremolos. You don't have to worry about the collar getting loose or having to take off the back plate to unscrew the trem arm. It's incredibly cool.

Ah ok makes sense now. Yea I know about the top mount Floyd nuts, companies like Ibanez have been doing that for a while now and Charvel as well etc. Just surprised me thats all, as I like the old school method better.
Regarding the trem arm, on my Axis I replaced the nut that holds the arm in with a new old school style 80's FR nut where the bar screws into the bridge. I have a really nice soft case and don't wanna lug around the MM hardcase all the time so that was my solution, cause taking out the trem arm before was a real hassle

Hey AJ,
Two questions... I have an Axis that was built in 2000 and I have stress cracks at the screws on the back of the neck. If I was to send it back for a replacement would I get the new style neck?
And, is the new trem a drop in replacement for the original trem? That might be a consideration too...

Hey Fred
The new neck would have the new nut and that would work fine with your current trem. If you wanted to drop in the new trem it would be an easy retrofit with no modifications aside from set up (you may need to add a bigger shim in the neck pocket).
It's not an easy retrofit on guitars with a floating trem like the current Morse.

HI AJ Is there any possibility that the Axis might be available left handed in the near future? any plans? Love my S.S. but would love to have a "Floyd" ! Do you make the new tremolos in house?

Well the PET trem is probably one of finest ever engineered I HOPE it eventually become a optional trem across the entire guitar line! oh and a good business case presents itself so that everything can be ordered lefty (and that I can afford to order 1 of each!!!) ...a lefty MM Floyd equipped Axis would be awesome but my vintage trem Axis S.S. is pretty Sweet right now, so I'm very thankful for that! and that my lefty JP is a tone Monster!

A.J., any plans to ever float the Axis Floyd in a routed cavity? Detuning a string is only half the fun.

Well I'll be dipped! I wasn't even paying attention.
I got my new Axis about a month ago and just yesterday noticed that the nut didn't bolt all the way through. I thought, "Now didn't these used to be drilled through? I like!" I didn't know about the bar, either, until reading this thread. I just walked over and pulled the bar out (which I sooooooo wished I could do before, not knowing). I like, again! Aaaaawesome! Now I want for nothing. My 99.9999% dream guitar was actually 100%. Very, very cool!!
