Just wondering,

will be receiving the SUB1 in a few days from a seller on ebay, it's a HH with tremolo.

Will I be able to switch this bridge to say a wilkinson bridge or an Ernie Ball MM bridge? or even a Bigsby?

Thanks

A Bigsby? I would guess it's possible to do so, but I couldn't imagine why you'd want to do it.

I'd try the guitar with the standard bridge 1st. The EBMM tremolo bridge's are rather good.

I think the Wilkinson trem is centered differently than a vintage or Floyd. I don't think it's a drop-in solution.

The trem posts are set differently as well.

As others have said, give the bridge that's on it a chance. It is really good.

But, it's your guitar, and you're free to do whatever you want. There would be some modification involved with all three types you've listed.

givin the relatively short life of the sub guitars..........you may wanna consider keeping it stock. not too often a guitar of this quality has such a short production . it may very possibly end up worth alot more in the future if left in original condition. just a thought. much stranger things have happened......

Do you really think so? I know the SUB1s were only built for a few years, but it seems like they did make quite a few. Plus I see them on Ebay and craigslist all the time.

while there is no way to tell for sure........i do think so. but....... not anytime soon.
look at the value of a fender mustang............... an all but unusable instrument.......but an early 60's one is worth some scratch. & the sub guitars dwarf them performance wise. and there were alot more mustangs made than sub guitars. also....look at the value of a 70's 3 bolt strat nowadays. & they were considered (and were) junky guitars.
me......i'd keep it. & i'd keep it original. they are really cool guitars.

I'll be trying to find a good example of a used SUB1 HH myself. I'd be most interested in the cinnamon finish, I think, but any of them are really okay if the guitar is in good enough condition. I know where I can get some NOS ones. One of them isn't in as good condition as I'd like. The other one is more money than I want to pay. So, hopefully, a used one will find its way to me.

Okay, back on track. I'd also just leave the guitar alone. It's pretty darn good on its own.

It is interesting reading these comments.

Over the last several months I have really debated modifying this guitar. Basically I love everything about it with the exception of the body. There is no arm contour and thus I find it uncomfortable to play as my wrist rubs against it. I love the neck, the pickups, and the bridge, but I have thought about modifying the body.

I suppose my first instinct is to leave it alone (obviously since I haven't done anything to it). However, I just don't find myself playing the guitar much at all - I haven't touched it since I got my 20th. :D

I may just to keep it for my kids as a "starter" electric if they are interested.

It's your guitar, you should do with it what feels right for you. Obviously modding it like that will kill the resale value, but if it's a keeper (aren't they all? ;)) then go for it.

I would love to see how a Bigsby would look on an EBMM! From a functional point of view, it would be a pretty poor addition, but at the same time look rather cool!

i actually bought a bigsby to put on my black sparkle morse......as i actually like the action of a bigsby for a slight cord vibrato. they have a nice subtle action that stops you from over doing it........& their own sonic id.
but i have yet to work up the courage to drill the holes.
