I'm loving the bridge pickup. I wasn't expecting it (I was expecting it to be a bit like a TZ, huge but very bassy and boomy) but I'm really digging the very special vibe it gives out. Could gain in tickness a little but well, I am using 009s for the first time in my life with this guitar so it's not that surprising.

However I can't get used to the neck pickup this much. Perhaps I'm just not used to neck humbuckers? Apart from a Les Paul (Edwards) I never had a guitar with one.

Basically I like the clean tones, but with a little drive or for high gain I find it lacks a little character.
Because of my lack of experience with neck humbuckers it's really hard for me to explain both what I don't like and especially what I want!

My priorities is that I would like it to mix well with the existing bridge pickup for those in-between positions I so love on the Axis. Apart from that I'm not too sure what I want. I don't want a buttery smooth LP tone, but I wouldn't mind a more bluesy, Fender like tone out of it.

Due to the routes on the guitar it seems I won't be able to use Duncans right..? I've never really liked DiMarzios much but I guess I'll have to try some in this guitar then :)

Thanks for any tips!

Try the Dimarzio web site. They have a cool pick up finder on there. If you are selling your old Axis ss neck bucker then I want it please. I love mine.

Cheers

+1

Their (Dimarzio) PAF repros get high marks everywhere, try to find one with more treble response. Might do the trick.

You can fit a Duncan in if you dremel or clip the mounting leg to an arrow shape just be careful and double check the height of the pup chosen. I think even some of the Dimarzio's can actually be too tall (please correct me if I am wrong).
