Changing strings on my EVH

The little blocks (don't know what the are actually called) that lock down the strings at the bridge always gets stuck. I loosen the screw, and then have to pry the little blocks back to get the string out. Am I getting them too tight when I put a new string in, or is something else going on here? Anyone else have this problem?

It sounds like they have been over tightened. The blocks get distorted and no longer move freely in the saddle. Also if you over tighten them it makes a groove in the block and the strings can slip out.

Ah, it's all too clear now.

Jon, anything that one can do to rectify that situation in the future (aside from not tightening them too much), like graphite or a dab of oil (or whatever) to keep 'em from locking up?
