Some poor sap that doesn't know anything about guitars will probably get suckered into buying it because it's an EVH.

I cannot stand Guitar Center. For those of you who know ED ROMAN... I'm starting to agree with him... in the fact that CHAIN STORES SUCK! I went to GC yesterday with a friend to buy a new amp... and the "Sales Assistant" didn't want to give us a good deal. We asked her to take $40.00 off... NOT A WHOLE LOT if you look at the price of the amp! and she was an idiot and didn't even know what she was selling and or talking about in regards to GUITARS. I'm all for buying direct and or supporting the small MOM AND POP STORES!

OH... not To mention! I saw a salesman yesterday too trying to sell a new guitar with a broken Floyd Trem to a young kid saying that "It's normal!" Ummmm.... NO SIR! YOU DO NOT SELL A GUITAR THAT IS BROKEN AS BRAND NEW! MORAL OF this story...l SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MOM AND POP STORE!

WHEW!!!! I Feel so much better!

What I don't like is that almost every product has been opened and usually an important part or the instructions are missing. Recently, I bought a EVH D-Tuna from them only to find out the spring is missing. Go back, and the other one in stock is also missing the spring. I returned mine only to go back a few weeks later and both D-Tuna's are back on the shelf. I commented on it, but they didn't seem to care. I have a few other stories too. That's why I mail order everything but my MESA's.

i've never bought from a chain store.....but would think each branch's quality would primarliy depend on the general manager's skills. i'm thinking there are well run g.c's & poorley run g.c's. like mcdonalds.....or whatever corp......
still i would rather typically support the independant shops ......

I've seen many auctions from this GC profile. 99% of the stuff they submit is banged up or abused and the prices are ridiculous. I don't know what it is but I have never liked GC. Something about the stores I never liked. I have bought from the chains in the past. Mostly Musicians Planet, I think it was called (one of the nicest stores I have ever seen) they're gone now and Sam Ash. Luckily I have not had bad experiences but I'm going mom and pop and some internet now.

I agree I mail order a little bit... However, my local mom and pop store is the best. I have purchased almost everything (EXCEPT 1 guitar strap and a set of strings) from them and as of late they give me really good pricing (about 15% over their cost) and when I need a tech bench to work on my gear their shop is open to me. I've taken about 4 groups of people in and their purchases has been close to 30k. So they treat me really good! GOD BLESS THE MOM AND POPS!

A Guitar Center recently opened in Peoria. We have a great Mom and Pop store in Peoria, so that's where I go.

Here's why I think this store will be closed inside of 3 years:

First off, the population base of Peoria isn't big enough to support a Guitar Center of that size, unless they put their biggest competition in Peoria (Flores) out of business.

They will not put Flores out of business because:

Flores carries two of the big names that this particular Guitar Center is not allowed to, Mesa/Boogie and PRS. GC gets in as much used stuff as they can from the other stores, but want to charge ridiculous prices for them. Flores also carries Ibanez, Fender, Gibson, Jackson, Ernie Ball, Gretch, Marshall, Crate, Vox, and possibly Peavey sometime in the future, and that's just the big name stuff. Flores will also match prices from GC.

Flores has a top notch service department. If a guitar is hanging on the wall there, it's playable. They also don't let kids come in there and grab a guitar off the wall and beat it to crap. They keep their inventory nice.

And the biggest reason is:
They don't give you anything on a trade. They figure what they will sell the guitar for, and give you half of that. I'll give you an example:
Asked what they could do on a trade on a platinum PRS Custom 22. I brought in my Cherry-burst Axis with what could easily be considered a 10 top. They offered me $500 for my guitar.

Now, it's one thing to give a kid half of what a B.C. Rich Warlock is worth, but for a working musician who knows the value of his guitar, that's just insulting.
Someone can get a decent deal there if they walk in with the cash, but most of the working musicians are looking to trade something they already have, so the higher end stuff will continue to hang there, while they sell low-end stuff to kids.
The kids will go there until they need their axe worked on, then they will have to go to where? Flores, where they will get good trades and find out that they match GC prices.

It's only a matter of time. :D
