Played at a blues festival today, and Sonny Rhodes' bass player had this gem. He told me he picked it up years ago in a pawn shop, and has no idea who modified it. Looked like a '70s DiMarzio to me. Lots of blues been played it, though...

That's a "gig-pig" indeed!

I do like the idea of a Stingray with a P-bass option. However, it looks like there's no pickup selector, so it's probably wired for both all pickups work all the time. I wonder how that sounds?

I guess the thing beside the jack is a selector.?

That's my kinda bass right there! I've thought about doing that to a stingray, the Pbass pickup and was suprised I had never seen it done, but now I have, will probably still never have the heart to do such a thing though....

Nice; looks like that ones been getting it done for quite a while, and, as God intended, mostly below the 7th fret ;)

You guys are too funny. I've seen pics of this bass, but was surprised when it showed up in person. That's his drummer holding it while they were setting up, I'm sure he was wondering why I was asking him to pose with the bass.

Actually he looks happy to have been promoted from drummer to bass player, even if it is just temporary. Can't say i blame him :)

Ugh, what an ugly m..f..in' Bass! :D

I bet it could have a great sound with fresh strings, wood is perfectly dry (age) and greasy :D so it must sound great, but of course as DTG said, without this ugly P pickup!

The Dimarzio weight addition is balanced by the loss of the pickguard and the missing layers of paint :D

Yea, but all that Mojo grease worked into the end of the fretboard makes it neck heavy :D:)

The guys looks like you could give him a plank strung with baling wire and he would make it sound good.

Good stuff!
