Holy crap... wait till that kid is 18-20 yrs old. I've been negligent with my six year old, I'll have to get her on a rigorous practice schedule now that I've seen this.

You know those comments on robotic playing are funny. When I first studied classical guitar , I always thought I was a robot, it seemed to me like typing, press the frets, pluck the string.

When I did the exams I would always get comments like "first rate control", "beautiful tone", "very musical playing".

They must have heard something I sure didn't. I guess it is all a matter of opinion.

+1 Jon,
I admit the guy has technical skills..so does my 16 year old son...so does Satriani...But frankly, I can only listen to so much of any of those guys.
That's not to pass judgement on the "goodness" of their playing (In fact, the whole.."who's the best - fill in the blank- player" is stupid in my book)
I personally am captivated by a different kind of player.
For instance, one who plays chords once in a while....... kidding.
To each his own, but jealous, no.

playing guitar is much like anything else....you learn different things at different rates.
take golf for example....when a player is young, you let him hit the thing as far as he can.
never mind about control or accuracy, just let 'er rip. the hardest thing to learn when you get older is.....how to get more distance.
put this is guitar perspective....
when a young player starts out, let 'er rip!
speed, speed, speed! you can learn feeling and dynamics and subtlety later,
(well....SOME people can!)
this kid is raw talent now, but he has potential so let's encourage him to enjoy it and slowly work out his own thing on the guitar.

I just think it's crazy for anyone to say anthing negative about an 8 year who can play like that. I understand it though because guitarists, on the whole, have fragile egos. But really, that's amazing. Who has "feeling" at 8 years old? Or even 12?

That's an awesome display of talent. And no, not everyone can do it. Some folks can practice 8 hours a day for 5 years and never sniff technique like that. It's just kind of sobering to see someone so young get it so fast.

That said, he probably gets a ton of attention because of his skill and will no doubt, grow up to be a fantastic prick.

Is anyone here familure with the stories of how Leopold Mozart would tour all of Europe, astounding all of Europe's nobility and aristocracy with the young Wolfgang's prodigious talent? That is what I'm reminded of everytime I see this. It seems the whole purpose of this video is to showcase what the kid can do. The kid has incredible techique. I think feel will come along as he matures and becomes jaded by the the events and people that he perceives in the world.

I know when I was growing up in the 80's, it was all about shred. I wasn't until I was much older that I settled down and focused on things other then massive sweeps, fast scalular passages, and string skipping here, there and everywhere. So, I agree that this is inpiring a very enoyable to watch. However, I also agree with Jon and Pete. I don't think there is anything to really envy here. Many of us were in this place in the late 80's/early 90's. We just weren't that young.

Dave...Nothing I said had anything to do with "envy" or a "fragile ego". You don't know me, so don't assume that you know how I feel.

-I have a fraction of his inherent talent yet am not jealous. Not a huge fan of the style. But I appreciate the precision and talent required to play it. And his little hands make some very impressive reaches.

-Agree with all of the comments about heart and lack there of. Yet IMO you've GOT to cut the kid some slack. He's 8!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

-If he's taught life correctly, he could be on his way to great things. Just trying to be as optomistic as possible.

Fair enough Jon. I meant no offense. Especially to the guy I will likely entrust with doing work on my guitars! But I don't think I singled you out. That said, I think though you may have expected comments like mine or you wouldn't have made the one above.
