I leave dings. They're mojo. They happen after a while no matter what.

My Sterling has quite some dings. One on the lower horn you can see the wood. :) Doesn't bother me. As long as there is no ding on the back of the neck, that bugs me.

I was wondering about this myself. I bought my Stingray used, and it has two chips that go down to the hardwood as well. (The photos on the net didn't really show that... no wonder I got a pretty good deal on it.) It is on the bottom side next to the input jack, so it isn't that big a deal.

I was just wondering if I should patch it so the chips don't get bigger. Is that unlikely to happen?

Just leave it man. They won't get bigger unless you pick at it or bump it in that spot again (fairly hard).

Welcome Millzy!!!!!

Did i hear someone say... "no pics, no bass?!" hehehe :D

leave the ding, spend the money you would spend on some crayons and nail polish on beer, imbibe it as quickly as possible (as i guess it wont be much!) and then "lick the wound" until your happy it belongs to you...

i feel ive represented the bongo family well enough there

Welcome to the Addiction!

My LE bongo is really war torn...this past Saturday's show...more damage. I tell ya...it ain't my fault! I was doing my normal metal routing swinging the bass side to side (did not see the mic stand), hit the mic stand hard enough to send it completely off the stage right.....then, last song, I snapped the input jack inside the bongo.....

After looking at the bongo....nice elephant print by the 5th fret on the bottom side and a chunk of fretboard missing.....ouch.....I need to take some pics of this poor bongo...but, she ROARS and that is what matters to me.

IF you do the Sharpie fix....post before and after....just so we can see how it looks.

OK, i'm going to do exactly that - i'm on the search for the Sharpies today - the missus has the nail polish so i should be right to go soon - i'll post the before and after pics and either confirm or deny the Sharpie Orange color match !!

Thanks all for your help and as i said i normally dont care about a few dings here and there but this bass is immaculate apart from the one ding. It would just be nice to have it looking shmicko at the start of its new life with me !! Any dings after that that i put into it are "character building" !!

I'll post pics when i'm done, luv ya work !!

I'm not pulling your chain. I've heard that at least the red one works for Trans Red, and it has been esteemed that the orange one works for Trans Orange. However, I wouldn't saturate the wood with the marker ink, rather just lightly brush it on. Jongitarz or anyone in repairs/engineering/CS feel free to throw the book at me on this one if I'm wrong. The last thing I'd want to do is give bad information and have you ruin your bass because of me.

This method works, or you could use the pen and a drop of super glue.
