We use the rubber washers you find on german beer bottles when they have the traditional porcelain-lock. They are made of a steady wire and porcelain and use a rubber washer to seal everyting airtight.

Just use the normal strap holder, get on the strap and mount one of this tubber washers over it. No more chance to get out. Just bombproof.

Seen that done before, just never seen/found any of the washers that are suitable

I so sadly know that sickening small "Crunchy-Grind" when the bass gets paint scratched. Mine have sometimes been from not just strap locks breaking but strap peg loosening and just pulling out of the wood. Gotta be quick and grab! Happened many times over the years. Only once the bass made it to the ground. Most my scratches from someone bumping into me or the wrong guitar stand and too short. (Feels dumb after that!)

I don't use strap locks anymore as they break. Instead - every bass gets its own strap. I pick a strap that really fits with the color and bass charachter. Then some oversize washers about the strap hole/body peg and screw the thing in. Strap just don't come off after that (until the peg works loose - then a slightly longer and wider screw). It is a bit of finess putting the bass in the case - but it can be done.

Safe and it looks great!

There IS a safe way to use strap locks. This
involves NOT fastening them to the strap in
the first place. You hook your strap to the
locking buttons and then use the strap lock
OVER that as a secondary safety precaution.
Not only is this method doubly safe, but the
locks themselves see little or no wear, since
they do not bear the weight of the ax.

Definitely. This is the way I used them (when I used straplocks). These days I find that the stock strap buttons on the EBMM guitars have a wide enough flange that if I use a good sturdy, thick leather strap (Like some of the Levi's ones) and just leave it permanently attached to the guitar/bass then it'll stay very secure and I don't feel I need straplocks. However, I'm probably in the minority in that sentiment but...that's my two cents.
