Friday night I played my Sterling 5 single H at a club. Saturday night I played my Bongo 5 single H at a large corporate event. I really enjoy the single H "vibe." Hopefully my Big Al 5 single H will arrive soon so it can join the family.

Maybe the odd question to ask but... why would you want to switch between a 4 and 5 string bass and want to have them sound identical?

(BTW, no two instruments, even the same model will sound identical... depending on which of my StingRay HH's I'm playing, I need to slightly adjut my auto filters)

If you don't like the single h sound, you don't like music man.

I don't think this is true. I love the single H sound, but I think that the point of expanding the EBMM line to include things like HH 'rays and Big Al's is to expand the idea of the "MusicMan sound." If someone picks up an HH bass and leaves it on both pickups 100% of the time because it's the tone that speaks to them, I'd say they still are after the MusicMan sound.

Uhm..

The Single H sound IS in the HH.

Then you flip the switch north and you get a new bass. All the sounds work..and you can set and forget without twiddling the knobs so don't sweat that.

What IS so cool about the HH is that...well, you can Have your H, flip the switch and get a very cool vintage almost Hoffy vibe out of the front pick up. Pretty cool.

I will probably end up with the H if, for nothing else, the price. But, that being said, the single H tone from my Sterling 4 is one I love, so I can't imagine NOT liking the 5H tone for some reason, or that it would leave me wanting for something more. The points on the HH are certainly valid and appreciated, and will more than likely fuel some future GAS for a bass! Thanks for the discussion!
