Hi All.

I have been thinking about getting the clapton mid boost installed in my Luke II. I want to use it just on the SLVs - not the '85. The Clapton Strat's use passive Lace Sensor or passive Fender noiseless pickups however, the boost circuit is an active circuit.

So ... not being any type of electronic genius ... I was wondering if it is okay to add this type of active circuit to the active pickups in the Luke II.

Thanks, Peter

Yes, you can do something similar with the EMG pickups as long as you're willing to replace the tone control or add another hole in your Luke II body.

You can try the EMG SPC (Strat Presence Control) which essentially tries to give a single coil a humbucker sound. From the website "This is accomplished by boosting the gain in a broad mid-band fashion and reducing the highs. The result is a fatter, louder tone from any single coil pickup, but you can also use it on a humbucking to give you a high output, really fat tone that's great for slide guitar."

I have not personally put one in a Luke, but I have used it with EMG SA pickups in another guitar. I have also installed (and kept) the EMG EXG, which I really like. With the EXG at full, it makes the EMG SA pickups cut through any mix. Very funky, glassy tone.

Hi kimonostereo

Thanks for the info and feedback on the EXG. I will lookup some youtube demos to have a listen and compare.

Appreciated.

ON the recommendation of another forumite, I recently picked up a TC Spark Booster for my Silo, and have been very happy with the result. I didn't buy it for a mid-boost, but it is a very simple and versatile pedal that offers that, as well as a fat and neutral setting (in addition to a drive setting that helps work tubes a little harder at lower volumes, which works quite well). If a pedal might work for you, check it out.
