Hey guys,
I am thinking of buying a classic sr5 just a quick question, do the all come with a slab body or is it possible to get a contoured body.
Cheers
D
I currently have two Stingrays, one (my numero uno), a Classic SR4 with a slab body, and the other is a regular SR4 with the contoured body, and I can honestly say that I don't notice a difference when I'm playing them.
The thing that I did notice when I first played the Classic is the difference between the lacquered neck and the oil finish. It took me a while to get used to the slick finish on the Classic after having played on the oil finish for a number of years (I used a Sterling for a few years, then bought a Stingray... then another—all with oil finish necks). But, I love both of 'em... and in fact I'm seriously looking at another Classic that recently popped up locally! They're the best in my opinion.
if you like the look of the classic but want an oil/wax neck and a contoured body you could try looking for a 20th sr5.
sweet caramel goodness in an awsum package
I love the 20 the, hard to come by. I nearly bought one years back. What grabs me about the classic is the pick guard. I really really love my 2005 sr5 but I have never liked the pg. I dig the classic with the standard shape it looks like my sr4 but is a 5er.
I don't think the neck would bother me, plus they are gorgeous !
Time for a new bass so I am looking at a few options classic ray is up there
DTG- I owned a classic SR for a while. I sold it to finance a honey roasted bass, not because I didn't like it. The feel of the neck on those is amazing. Seriously awesome tones and easy to dial in. I will say that if you like a lot of mid boost this may not be for you, but they are awesome basses and the necks are a little thicker than the standard SRs to my touch.. The aesthetic of the necks is gorgeous too and the finish feels great. I am fixing to get a classic sr5 in the future to replace the one that was sold if that's any indication of how much I liked mine.
as i type i am sitting with my sr5 on my lap, its still the best sounding bass i have ever owned hands down, neck is amazing weight is HEAVY not mad about the pick guard but plug her in and let it rip ! i would love a clear pg but then you would see the ele bits.
do you know if anyone has ever made a pg for one?
I had an old pick gaurd I got and butchered it to make a plate for the control knobs with the hope to make what was left of it into a tear drop shape. Yeah It doesn't work
Had another idea, is it possible to change to pick up cover from white to black ? I could then put a black pg on her so it would look like the 2007 ltd blue dawn.
I still have to find a classic 5 to try out but not many around.
I don't believe you can change the pickup covers on 5's. If you can I would love to change the one on my sterling and find a white pickguard. I have tried out a classic 5 and I liked it better than any of the SR 5's I have owned. The neck felt and looked spectacular. Plus I am like you as I don't care for the huge pickguard. Someday the right used one will come along and I will buy it. In the meantime I am digging my sterling. Give one a try if you have a chance.
