Hi,

Does anyone know how often and when the colors of the classic collection are changed? I'm thinking about placing an order for a Classic Sabre in natural, but when there is a chance of cool new colors within a few months, I might wait a little longer.

Thanks!
Ray

Great user name!

Things like colors are usually announced at NAMM, which is coming up at the end of January. That doesn't mean that there will be any changes or announcements.

There is also the possibility of another Premier Network limited edition at any time, but there is no guarantee for that, either.

Sometimes they mention stuff here on the forum before it's announced at NAMM, but the number of people whining has increased over the years when they do that I wouldn't blame them for waiting until the actual show.

So, if you feel like waiting until the end of January to order one (and, then not getting it until 3-8 months later when they have a huge rush of orders), then you will be more likely to not miss any announced color changes. If there are any.

Of course, you also might end up waiting for a price increase (PURE SPECULATION ON MY PART--simply throwing things out to take into consideration), change in hardware specs (again, pure speculation) or something else that changes.

I think there are few things that look as cool as a Sabre with a natural body, especially with a maple fretboard and a black pickguard. So, even if they do announce something, you could always sell it and get what you want. There aren't too many used Sabres on the market, so you'd probably get a decent resale value.

Hey, thanks for all those insights!
I might just go ahead and order... I promised myself no new bass until the new year, though.

Just look for one on the used market. That way you save some $$$ and if they announce a cool color in January, you can sell the one you have, and put that money toward the Brand new bass.

Hi Bassmonkeee,

I've ordered several new ebmms and I've never waited much more than three months. I ordered during the emerald green sparkle series and the neptune blue, both of which were pretty popular runs, and I was still at about three months.

So, I just wanted to chime in with my 2 cents...we don't want to scare off anyone who wants to place an order

I was specifically referring to ordering right after a NAMM show, when a lot of major dealers place huge orders. And, also taking into consideration any changes in specs that might affect delivery time (ie new tuners on Bongos, Gamechanger technology, new battery compartments, etc). Basically playing devil's advocate for waiting vs ordering natural now.

Obviously, anyone ordering should definitely ask what the current expected delivery time would be. Besides--anyone scared off by my post is too timid to own a Musicman. ;)

The classic colours were originally announced as having a rotation of colours. Basically, the White and black have been produced right from the start and haven't changed - tobacco burst was produced from the start also but was joined/replaced by retro burst a couple of years ago, when natural also appeared. This core of colours seems to stick around.

At the start, three pastel colours were offered (coral red, powder blue and mint green) but these were dropped after about 12 months and replaced with other colours. There seem to be two or three which get offered and are replaced after a while (most recently Diego blue, trans White (is it still available?) and Classic candy (red). Diego blue replaced Lake Tahoe blue and seems to have been replaced itself by trans blue.

So you may well see a change round of two or three colours after winter NAMM - there have also been GC special colours, and the PDNs are usually available on the Classic basses also.

As for how long it takes to receive a bass, I was quoted 3 to 6 months by EBMM customer services recently. My Neptune blue Classic Sabre took between 3 and 4 months from order, but that did include international shipping etc.
