A few weeks ago I played a 5 string classic in GC that was out of this world. If I was in the market for a 5er, I would have bought it on the spot. (Although it must have weighed 12 pounds!)

In any event I am looking to get a 2nd fretless and was wondering why the Classic is not offered in fretless. They made them in the past with the mutes so I wouldn't think that is an issue.

Just askin'.....

BTW, still holding breath for new StingRay colors to be announced and am now officially turning blue!

I doubt it but you could simply have it de-fretted and epoxied by a trusted luthier. If the Luthier uses natural maple furnier to fill in the fret slots on a maple board or stained on a rosewood the fret lines would probably be barely visible. I think a fretless birds eye maple fingerboard would be sweeeet!

Musicman does make many many fine fretless instruments that are not of the classic series. I think a fretless ebony classic wouldn't really be that much of a "classic" in feel and look. Plus, like ptg, I think the pau ferro really makes a better fretless anyway.
