Ed nice review, but you didn't get to show much of the roundwounds tone-wise, playing with the EQ etc like you did with the SR4 and flats.

What I like most about Ed's reviews is he lets the bass do most of the talking. Leaves the "opinion" for the ear of the viewer. He keeps more friends of the manufactuers that way, but it also benefits all of us bass players. Occasionally you'll get some nuggets, like "flats on these sound really good", or when Ed challenges "conventional wisdom". I pay particular attention to those.

Luckily, I was friends with a lot of manufacturers BEFORE I started reviewing!

Anyway, thanks all. I appreciate the feedback. These are the first two I've shot in my new location, I'm still working out lighting, and using some new gear that is both exciting and terrifying...

Great review Ed. That 2 band eq has always intrigued me. Makes me wonder if all controls are set flat, is there a difference in tone between a 2 band and a three band eq? Hmmmm :)

Ed,
Big fan of your reviews; dialog seems well thought out and covers all the pertinent info
Needless to say your playing and tone are superb; 1st call stuff
Also happy that the reviews come off as honest and don't seemed to be controlled by manufacturer's advertising revenue
Totaly get how magazines work but there have been some publications in the past (and more so in motor sports) where the biggest advertisers always got the best ink regardless of product quality; been a few music mags that were clearly squezed as well
Keep it honest and we'll follow you anyhwere!

Great review as usual from both Ed and for EBMM products!

I'm going to bookmark it and whip it out anytime someone calls a Stingray a 'one trick pony'! That demonstration was awesome!

Educational too! I did not know it was boost\cut. I guess I've been playing mine mostly cut since I've rarely gone past the mid mark on either EQ knob.

Thing is, I'm OK with one trick ponies when they kick major a$$
Leo hammered that nail hard with the P and when you think about it, was one of the greatest musical inventions of the day (we're talking mid 50's)

Cool part is the Ray is an a$$ kicking, multi-trick thoroughbred that has not become dated in features or flexibility in 30 some years

Based on this, I suspect Big Al might have the same legacy; BTW, who is this guy in the clip?; GREAT explanation and monster player:
