Today I rescued a BEAUTIFUL Vintage White Classic SR4 from the local GC. White PG, Birdseye/birdseye board. BUT....I have 2 curious questions.....

1) I have not seen these with a matching headstock.....except mine. Anybody else? Seems counter-vintage to have a matching one, but I like it!

2) Is there a special case for these? Or the standard MM cases? (Not that they aren't great cases!!) The sales guy did not know....

Thanks for any input!!

1) I've never seen these with a matching headstock. Are you sure it's a classic? Gloss neck finish, bridge with mutes, older style headstock decal? If not then maybe you have a regular stringray (lucky you got birdseye) with the optional 2-band EQ.

2) they come with the regular MM case.

I played one at the GC in Raleigh, NC today. First thing that caught my eye when I picked it up was the painted headstock. Polyurethane birdseye neck, 2 band, Vintage White (was pretty sure it was the vintage logo on the headstock). Fantastic instrument.....had it plugged into a Markbass CMD 102P, sounded fantastic.

That GC exclusive finish is outstanding, I really like the white on white. The GC in Greensboro, NC has one without the painted headstock, so maybe someone will chime in with the difference. I just assumed it was a limited bunch for GC....

SLUGGO...I remember seeing some with matching headstocks when they were first announced last year. I think you have a very rare Classic. Congrats

PS It could also a special order for GC, but either way, there wouldn't be that many around.

I went to Guitar Center in Pasadena today and saw one like that. There was an Ivory White with a matching headstock, and a black one with a white pickguard (no matching headstock), both with stunnning birdseye maple necks (the best I've seen so far). I don't know about the black one, but the Ivory White had a higher price tag than the other Stingray Classics. Maybe they are an even more exclusive/special/rare edition? I still can't get over how amazing those necks looked; they made my Ivory White's neck look like regular maple :D

I have played that one (and all the rest of them in the Raleigh store for that matter!) and I was also struck by the matching headstock. I actually prefer the Lake Placid Blue one in the Raleigh store. There is "something" about that PARTICULAR LPB that the others don't have. It has a more livelier resonance to me. I took my 3 Band Natural Ray in and compared it to the Classics there and I was VERY surprised that I preferred my Natural over the ones there!!! I think it is just the weight and the feel of this Natural one though. She only weighs 8.6 lbs!!! Sounds like she weighs 12 lbs though. I have to admit that I could really fall for the LPB and have almost bought it a few times. The white one is REALLY nice to though but just a tad heavy for me! I have decided that I am going to make a Pilgrimage down to Bass Central in the next month or so and play every Music Man they have and buy the best 4 and the best 5 in the store!! I hope they have a BUNCH of Classic 4s and 5s by the time I go...I am dead set on doing it. I have figured that with all the stuff they have it will take me about 2 days to decide! LOL! Tell Mike Thrower (ask for him he is in Pro Audio) at the Raleigh store that T-3 said to cut you a deal on the Classic of your choice!!

Peace,

T

AWESOME....thanks for the input. This is DEFININTELY a Classic Series (logo, neck finish, mutes.) I will get pics up tonight. The finish is so badass!! I have 4 other Stingrays to compare it to....this one sits right on top of the heap!!!

Any clues on the case thus far??

I was hoping the finish was great. White is my favourite, and ive always wanted a slightly yellowing vintage white.
