Just played a classic 5 at our local music store. Love the original features including the pearl shaped pickguard! Played and sounded like a dream. Definately planning on making the purchase. Just need to find one with a light body (swamp ash or alder like).

five stars!

I too was very close to picking up on of these in either Coral Red or Mint Green, but realized I like the standard satin neck finish better. The classic feels a bit sticky to me, but the do LOOK and SOUND incredible.

On another note, my wife went out and without ever seeing either of the coral or mint colors, bought me 2 polo shirts in the exact same color. Pretty freaky huh?

Hmmmm....... 2 polo shirts that match the MM SR Classic colors? That is significant. I would suggest buying 2 SR classic basses just to be on the safe side.

Believe me, if I had the cash I would pick one up just to have, but like I said the glossy neck unfortunately is a deal breaker for me.

The lacquered (glossy) neck is one of the features of my Classic SR5 that I like the most. I hoping more EBMM bass models will become available with it soon.

It's not necessarily a "Problem", but just a preference. I have been playing for over 30 years myself, but once I tried the smooth satiny neck, I was hooked, and won't go back...I won't! :)

John I had exactly this thought when I bought my Classic Ray (the oil and wax finished necks felt that much better than I remember the pre-EB feeling) - it doesn't take long to get used to the finished neck to be honest and whilst doing that I had the beautiful 2 band tone and extra-stunning look of the bass to take my mind off it. I don't notice the different neck finish any more, even when swapping between basses with the two types of neck finish mid set, so for me it was something which didn't take too long to get used to, even for playing fast passages up the neck. I agree with you that the smooth satiny neck is great as well though.

I REALLY like that Mint Green...such a sweet finish...

Completely agree with you! I just don't dig the Classic V's shape. I like the Stingray 5 as it is. If I were wanting a 4 string, I would definately go with a Classic IV.

With regard to a shiny neck that may be a nuisance to some. Try a little extra fine scotchbright. Works like a charm and looks good too!
