What Classic colors being discountinued?

I just updated this thread with new information I found out. Still looking for an answer from E.B on this one. Thanks.

I just bought a Classic 4 string from the Manhattan NY G.C. and was told by the salesperson that the some Classic pastel colors are going to be discountinued. Is that true? The manager of the store told the salesman that I dealt with that B.P. had lunch with some of the G.C. staff and told them that E.B. was going in the roasted direction and was going to get away from producing some of the current Classic colors. Do we know which ones?

This all came about when I tried to use G.C.'s 10 % off coupon towards the MM Classic 4 I just bought. But I was not allowed to use it because the manager of the Manhattan NY store said that because the of the fact that the Classic's that were being produced in the pastel colors were being discountinued by E.B. G.C. was not allowed to discount them anymore. I still bought the bass anyways but found this news disturbing. I was going to special order one in January but now I don't know if I will be able too. If anyone knows anything about this please let me know. I would like to know if the manager of the Manhattan store was full of bonk in telling me this just to get me to pay full price for the bass or if I will not be able to order the white classic 4 with a rosewood neck that I want. Thanks.

The current set of colors might be discontinued, but I don't believe the entire line is being done away with.

Of course, I have been wrong in the past. Perhaps not as often as people at Guitar Center, though. :D

Still loving the Big Al 5H fretless, BTW.

Glad it got a good home. Did you ever refinish it?

I am automatically skeptical of anything any retailer tells me. I've heard way too many fairy tales over the years.

If EBMM is going in the roasted direction for the whole line, it would make me very happy indeed.

But I'll believe it when I see it.

Most likely explanation? Forgive me for being cynical, but there's at least a chance that the manager was cooking up a convenient reason to turn down your discount coupon.

as far as i remember the classics were gonna rotate colors every year or so. so its possible, like the guys said, the color is gonna be retired.

unless i hear it from Pete or a another "dialed in" dealer i generally don't believe dealers either.

maybe someone from MM will chime in for the final word

I would like to hear what BP has to say since the guy is claiming he had lunch with some of the Guitar Center staff. I'm also wondering if they had something prepared from a B.P. Smoker?

Once again, it seems odd that they would not honor the coupon. I will give them a call and see what's up and let you guys know.

Thx!

Thanks. Let me know. That 10% that I would have saved could go towards the MM 4 classic that I want to special order.

If I were you, I'd just march in there with a printout of the second page of this thread and say "I'd like the 10% you stiffed me-don't make me call Marty."

There are some items at GC where the 10% is not honured. A few months back with a 10% promotion GC told me the same thing regarding a 25th anniversery guitar. The Mgr. also told me anything thats already discounted or on sale does not apply for the 10% program. So basically it can only be used on regular priced items. I didnt hang around to read the fine print. It makes sense though. But GC should make it more clearer. The 10% is a tactic to get people into the stores. Good Luck. The Classic is next on my list as well. :)

Well, his reason was "The line has been discontinued," and that's not true. So, at the very least, he'll have to come up with another reason. :D
