Outch,

beaten with the finish in sight by GWDavis. Nevertheless, only a difference of 5 dollars...

Enjoy the instrument I'd say and have a great time with it. It serves a great foundation.

Cheers, Tom.

Jimi D, thanx. Yah isn't that they only that EvilBay works? It was a last minute decision between my wife and myself.

Yah now I have 2 of them!! Kinda cool.

Nobody sniped it did they? That's not very nice now is it. To lose out over 5 bucks in the last minute and 30 seconds or so.... ouch.

Sniping == bad. The bane of eBay.

Nice guitar though...

You don't know if it was sniped. Ebay never shows the maximum bid of the winner. He could have bid 20,000, but the winning amount will only be the minimum bid amount above the maximum bid of the next highest bidder.

But that bid would've gone in after the last highest bid, not hours later in the last 2 minutes.

...and I never said I knew anything.

Sniping isn't the bane of ebay, it's a perfectly legit auction stategy.

The bane of ebay are buyers who expect you to ship 5 minutes after they send you the money and sellers who misrepresent their goods. The most egregious of these are people selling guitars..."excellent condition" seems to cover just about every level of abuse.

"The bane of eBay"?!? Come on... You bid what you're willing to pay - if someone out-bids you, tough luck. Whether it happens in the last two hours, the last two minutes or the last two seconds is irrelevant. The bottom line is that the person with the second highest bid ALWAYS loses by $5 (or less)... That's the way E(vil)bay works - there's nothing bad, immoral, evil, wrong or subversive in bidding at the last minute. Period.

Agreed, that's how it works. It totally sucks though... It sucks to lose out on something as nice as that guitar, for five lousy dollars in the last two minutes, because you weren't sitting watching and hitting refresh every two seconds at the end of the auction though. It happens way too often. It's the only part of eBay's system that I think they should fix. It'd be nice if people would just put in what they're willing to pay and let the auction play itself out, instead of waiting until the end of the auction, and hopping in with an ever so slightly higher bid.

I'm not attacking anyone if that's how I came across... but, it is something many people, including me, have been the victim of, and it's very very frustrating.

I'm not going to sit here and argue about it though, this is a part of the Ebay system that is flawed, though, there is little they can do about it.

BlackSpy, I lost out on my first CLB in the last 20 seconds. I was crushed, but I emailed the dude and asked him what he wanted for it. After about 3 months I got the guitar, it had a ding in it, but I didn't care I got it and will have it forever.

It does suck to lose out, but if you want it then you'll do whatever it takes to get it, legally of course. I don't see you as arguing, but more voicing your opinion, and that's cool.

I agree that sniping bites, but that's part of the process and something that people deal with. I also agree that the guitar segment is ripe with this sort of thing. I don't like it, but things happen. They are either meant to be or not.

Exactly! You can't whign about "losing out" to someone who bid MORE than you would spend on the guitar. Just because the last bid is ONLY $5 higher than what you plugged in doesn't mean he didn't bid $1000 more than you. Sniping is actually to your advantage if you really want something - some twit sitting with his finger on the bid button, trying to grab a guitar you want in the last minute of the auction for $20 more than your current bid is in for an ugly surprise when he finds out that you actually had a $200 buffer... And anyone who knows Ebay knows that there will be last minute bids - if I don't have atleast $100 left on my max bid with an hour left to go in the auction, I basically consider it lost, 'cause chances are very, very good that it will be....

We now return you to your regularly scheduled congratulatory messages. :D

Oh, yeah, Congrats GW on one fine axe!

I gotta say one more thing about getting something you want on eBay, and I'm letting you in on the way I play these auctions so listen up.....

If I am willing to pay 1000 for an axe, why should I bid that or anything early on. I just open the door for people to peck away at my bid, raising the price higher and higher. If I wait 'till the very end and blast the auction with my max bid, I rule out the people who up their bid by 50 dollars trying to outbid me, thus raising the price I'll eventually pay and if I get out bid by someone already
bidding higher, then so be it.
