Cleaning maple frettboards

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to matters as regards to what you should use to clean diffrent neck materials. I have only had my axis sport for around 8 weeks and I have noticed the maple neck is looking a bit grubby. Could anyone recomend something to clean it up. Cheers.

Ernie Ball Wonder Wipes! You can't go wrong with them!

You could also use Lemon Oil and Birchwood-Casey Oil and Wax. I used that stuff before the Wonder Wipes came out...

First clean the neck and then oil & wax. This might seem silly to say but I've known guys to use the oil first, thinking they could clean with it.

I use Murphy's oil soap heavily diluted with warm/hot water and a clean rag.

Another great tip: put on the EB RADIO while doing work to your guitar. Great tunes to help the job get done right

Q: How do I maintain the neck on my new Music Man guitar?


A: Since the neck is unfinished, it can be more susceptible to humidity changes. An annual (or so) dose of gunstock oil will help to keep the neck maintained; we use and recommend Birchwood-Casey Tru-oil, but any good quality gunstock oil will work.Clean the neck first. Use a small amount of Tru-oil, leave it on for 5 minutes, then wipe it off with a paper towel.

So when you are talking about using the gunstock oil is that only for the back of the neck or is it for the Fretboard as well? Is it the same for Rosewood or Maple?

Maple, yes. Rosewood, no. Wonder Wipes is best for rosewood, imo.

I used them on my Silo Special SSS when I had them and it worked great just got to wipe the excess off with a paper towel...
