hey everybody,

just got home from rehearsal using my sterling. wow! i luv that bass the more i use it. my rig just kicked it tonight!

hey, my bass's finish gets all smeary and smudgy after i play it. is there something that i can use that is quick and easy that i can carry to gigs and rehearsal with me to clean it while i'm using it and when i'm finished playing it before i put it into it's case?

my fenders and g&l's don't seem to get so smudgy and smeary so i haven't had to worry about them. i just polish them and they're ready to go.

any help is appreciated,

I've got a Peizo Sterling and it just gets more and more useful every day! Glad to hear I'm not the only one!

The best stuff I've seen for polishing a glossy finish is the Dunlop 65 polish. It really seems to work well on everything I tried it on.

Hey Donna, another thing youy can do is wear a long wrist (arm) band on your right arm, I'm assuming you play right handed.
I do because I hate whem my arm sweats on the body of my basses. With the arm band, my arm moves around easier and it absorbs the sweat on my forearm so it does make a smeared mess.
Another polish that is easy to use and works well is the Gibson Luthiers choice. It's in a little bottle that is easy and light to put in your case or gig bag. You can find it in most stores that sell guitars, even Sam Goody has it. It comes in a pack with a fretbord conditioner which is good if you have a rosewood fingerboard on your Sterling, and has a bottle of string cleaner / lubricant.

bassmaniac, i forgot about good ol' gibson. that wrist band deal seems to be a pretty cool idea. ' matter of fact, i might just try it also to add alittle to my stage presense :cool:

donna, yes the piezo pickup gets an acoustic bass type sound, prbably even better with a fretless bass. I've got to try one out on my fretless bass.
 
Personally I would recommend against polish with Musicman basses. The problem is that it tends to build up after a few years and leave a sick residue. A damp cloth and an old clean t shirt to wipe it up works very well.

Polish is okay for oiled bass finishes, but EB finishes are tough mothers, and polishing, while making them look good, isn't really nessicary. Just be careful around the electronics.
 
EB Polish Cloth

I leave the polish cloth that came with my Ray in the case with an old rag - wipe down with the rag first, then polish up with the cloth. I'm with Masamax - applying a polish isn't necessary with the excellent finishes on MM basses. I think EB will even send you one if you call them with your serial #... could be wrong tho ;)
