On my sport the neck is a lot darker than usual maple, but it's not actually dirty. I've just applied a bit of lemon oil and a lot of elbow grease and it was mostly clean.

I got told it's simply that the neck hasn't been treated in too long or that the treatment has sunk in.
I should get my oil + wax tomorrow, or Monday. Meanwhile is there anything I can do to prepare the neck further? I feel a little weird about using sandpaper as in the EB video, though I do have some 1,000 grit.

I scrubbed mine with Murphys oil soap and teh did two applications of oil and 3 applications of wax.
I would try that before sanding.

Murphy's oil soap... never seen this in Europe, not where I lived at least :(

I got this set from Thomann: MUSIC MAN CARE SET MMPFLEGE1 - U.K. International Cyberstore
This is however for treating, not for cleaning. Different processes. I would like to clean my neck before the best I can even though it doesn't appear to be very dirty. I know it should be lighter than it is now.

Will look for something Saturday. I never finish work early enough for stores to still be open... hopefully there'll be something similar and I can figure out how the hell it's called in French :p

Your neck is not dirty ... it's just the flame of a maple neck ! The frets seem to be in very good shape, thus I presume that your guitar was not played a lot. If you removed the dirt, it's now as a good as you can have it.
If you want to see the effect of wear on a neck :

My Morse (9 years old ... but a lot of rehearsal & gigs)

Thus be careful : you risk to damage your neck with all the products ...

Yeah... it's not very dirty indeed. Just not been treated in a while. You can really see the difference between the headstock and the playable surface of the neck. Can't wait to oil and wax her! Et ouais elle a super manche merci, tres belle flamme... encore plus apparente sur photo qu'en vraie! :)

The frets are unfortunately quite work... :/ Not as grooved as the ones on your Morse, but the wear is noticeable.

Pott the neck looks great to me, I really do not think anymore work is needed at the present time.Just make sure you wash your hands good before playing is the only advice I could give.

It's normal !!!! The neck is treated with oil & wax, the headstock has a finish (un vernis !)

You see the difference between neck & headstock.

Ah good to know, I was wondering why the headstock seemed glossier earlier on, that explains.

I do worry too much about her... I guess I'm used to much lighter looking maple necks. This is the most expensive guitar I've ever had and one I have great hopes for..! Just making sure I get everything right... :D

I like the worn in look of maple. Ill take a pic for you guys to see the neck on my Silo Special. No birdseye, but the maple almost has a gray tint to it. Its not really dirty as I always wash my hands and wipe the neck down every time before I put it away. But I think I will do the treatment on it soon...I had the oil and wax but threw it away for some reason haha.

:D I never thought she'd get popular.

I did get my wax + oil pack today from Thomann and it's the Birchwood Casey variety... perfect! I have everything I need to make her shine tonight.

There will be pics.

I have to say, that neck, fingerboard, and headstock is a LOOKER! Texture and figuring is just so well balanced and tame, yet in your face.

I love rosewood so much, but maple looks so sexy!

Thanks :)

I gotta say, I've taken the strings off on Monday until I could clean/treat it, and yet everyday I pick it up and just look at that neck (mostly to determine if it's clean enough, mind you..:D). Stunning. I always thought it was a bit ugly whenever I saw it in that shop, but once I was playing it, no more.

I'm not sure whether I'll use the grating thingy given in the care package I got today... nothing I've ever done before.

Great looking Sport. I've got a similar one- flamed maple neck, MM90s. Beaut.

Wow ... I'd seriously take a look at Tommy's offer to trade for a Morse. He'll be in Europe soon on tour with Steve ;)

The invite is always open for any of you guys to come share a beer in Luxembourg anyway if you're around... :D

I love Morse... the Y2K is an incredible axe to me. Never played one unfortunately :( Not many in Europe; only ever saw one in Amsterdam for 2,000 euros.

DeepPurple in Trier in a week but way too expensive too :'(

This may sound like a stupid question.... but, does EBMM sell the oil and wax? I looked through the instrument care products and didn't see it...
