I'm not sure that I can adequately express how great I think these sound on my SR4 without exclamatory profanity. I was skeptical about the claim of "roundwound tone", to my ears they do live up to the marketing copy. Fantastic sound. The feel was initially a little bit "sticky" but an hour of playing did seem to solve that. The fundamental punch along the entire range is excellent, the overtones are tamed but the high-end is still far more than I would ever expect from a flat. I am VERY happy with them on my 'Ray, great job executing a great idea, EB!!

A set of 5 for the Bongo is next :D

Not very fond of RW myself but when I pretty
much hadda do RWs [to play with percussion
ensemble], with frets [which I'm also not too
fond of], the solution at the time was Cobalts.

As soon as the Cobalt flats came out, the RWs
came right offa that ax! And yet it still has the
same tone ... minus fret noise :)

It really is surprising how "roundwound" the flats sound - plenty of presence and "bite" without ancillary harmonics and fret clank. The power and punch of the fundamental lows is solid and pronounced. I didn't expect to like them THIS much!

After disliking the initial "sticky" feel, it eventually went away and agreed, they play and sound great!

Just got my first set of these. The A string was dead out of the package. Bummer. Hopefully getting a replacement soon. I like that way they are voiced, and I hope they hold up.

I played with the Cobalt Flats on my previous Bongo 5 and absolutely loved the tone after I changed my picking technique (I had previously posted in another thread that the strings weren't my cup of tea). I am dying to try the strings on my neck-through Stingray after my roundwound Cobalts that i have now fall off (love those strings, too).

Since my original post, I did put a set on my Bongo 5HH and they sound as great as they do on the SR4. The SR now has roughly 24 hours of gig-time playing on the Cobalt Flats and they are still snappy and articulate as new. I haven't missed the roundwounds yet.
