Cobalt strings on my SR5?

What is the best way for me to change my bass strings if I want to put on Cobalt strings? I heard that you shouldn't make a kink (sharp bend) before cutting them, but that you should cut the string straight. This is to avoid a broken string with Cobalts. Is this true? I have often read that people had problems when installing Cobalt strings.

I'm not aware of any specific instructions re: Cobalts. @Rod Trussbroken and @bovinehost ? Any advice?

Cobalt flats or rounds?

Edit: Actually, I don't think it matters. I've used both and didn't do anything special with either. I do try to get as many wraps around the post as I can to avoid stress on the sharp bend, but I do that with all strings.
