Larry -

In mine I installed this pot and it works great:

DiMarzio 500k - part number: EP1201PP

As far as a diagram goes, well, I had a friend help me and we kind of had some idea but also did a lot of trial and error (he's a very good solderer!). I took some photos for you to look at, but they aren't that great:

BTW, I do like the split tones, especially the middle position with lots of gain! :)

if your one of those players who ALWAYS has his tone control all the way up........u can do away w/ the cap..........& use that same pot as a somewhat varible switch & use it to take a coil in the bridge to ground . ( splitter).

Well, first he should find the tone control on the Axis :D

From a guy I know who lives on the ohter side of town..... ;)

I ordered it through GC - just call them - get a good price and pay for it over the phone with credit card and they will ship it to your house (don't pay more than $10.00 total, though!) All you need for them is the part number and brand - make sure they add the "PP" part at the end when ordering or you will get the wrong pot!

Larry-

EBMM won't supply you with diagrams to do modifications. But this is a pretty straight-forward mod, you can find a lot of resouces on the web. DiMarzio's site has one here.

Variations on this would include picking which coil is split, etc. There are a bunch of ways to get a single-coil-ish sound from a HB. Keep in mind that these pickups will hum when you split them.

Another good option is to split the HBs when in the middle position only- like the way the JP is wired up.

Larry-

There are quite a few wiring diags on that page. There are a few that handle coil splitting and they're right. (There are 2 coils in a humbucker, you can choose to use either one when you split them and this will matter.) However you'll need to know Dimarzio's wiring colours so you know which is the start/end of the north/south coils.

I posted a link to a diagram supplied by Dimarzio with the right colours in my previous post. It's here:

http://www.dimarzio.com/media/diagrams/4Conductor.pdf

Might just be easier to use that. It just shows a regular DPDT switch, but that's what's on the bottom of a push/pull pot so no problem.

I did have this done on one of my Axi, but I didnt much care for the sound. Might be worth checking out an ASS's single coil tones before you pull your guitar apart.
