I just bought a BFR John Petrucci model guitar and the coil tapping feature seems to only work when the pickup selector is in the middle position. Is that correct? I have never had a guitar with coil tapping, so I am trying to figure it out, before I take it back to the store. thanks in advance.

Yep, it's working correctly.

It's not supposed to split the neck or bridge pickups on their own, just give you either split or full humbuckers in parallel in the middle position (both of which are still hum-cancelling combinations).

What's the standard configuration with the split option. I have a JPXI and in the middle position with the tone knob down its all 4 coils. It splits when I lift the tone knob. I thought it was suppose to be reversed? Maybe I just assumed it was since my JP7 had a split coil tone in the middle position. Sorry if my question is worded terribly lol.
