Best advice will come from a lefty :

Statistics show "lefties book over 9.7 times the average number of "check-up" colonoscopies than recommended by health professionals.

Funnily enough, whenever they have finished people think they've had a make-over / facelift due to the raised brow, wide-eyed smile, and nauseatingly happy mood that follows

I did a lot of colonoscopies in med-school and although I haven't personally experienced that yet, I can safely say that every patient I ever had said that prep was the worst part of it. I really can't elaborate further on anything Robelinda said: drink the stuff, go to sleep, wake up and have someone drive you home so you don't kill yourself doing something stupid. It's not the end of the world and I wouldn't hesitate to undergo one myself if the need arises.

And is this topic really such a giant leap after all this blatant talk about fondling our balls :)?

I just had one done almost two months ago and it really is no big deal.
As soon as they give you your injection it's "sleepy-time." The prep is
not that bad, but the prep liquid will rip through you within the first
hour of digesting. I would also suggest chilling the liquid in the refrigerator
before you take the first glass. I also chewed on a piece of gum while
drinking it, because the aftertaste is horrible!! Gum should help you a
lot! Once you see stomach bile only, stop taking the prep med. I wound
up having diverticula in my upper large intestine, but not Crones disease
(thank God)! Good luck either way! Ah....the aging process sucks!

I've come close ... I can tell you sigmoidoscopy is a bitch. They don't put you out for it, so you're wide awake and uncomfortable as hell. (The preparation was most certainly not the worst part of it.)

Worst part was lying on the table trying to keep my composure for the hot cute nurse while having the doc yell at me to "relax so I can get this in!". Even worse when he did ... the colour was off on the monitor, so he opened the door and left me to go find the A/V guys (as people wandered down the hall and got a good look). Then having to sit there while the A/V guys showed up and adjusted the colour on the monitor while the doc was digging a hole to china ... I'd prefer to not do that one again, thanks.

Beej, I hope you're not offended when I say that your story made me laugh. It was well told. I had a sigmoid several years ago. In my case, they did an upper GI endoscopy at the same time. So, they put me under for the entire proceedure.

I did wake up briefly during the endoscopy. I was freaking out with this huge tube down my throat. I felt like one of those circus freaks with a pair of swords down my gullet.

At first I thought this thread was a joke but I’m glad to see everyone come clean and share their experience.

Its serious, damn serious as we get up there in age. Colon Cancer is our breast Cancer.

Just thank your doc for not scheduling a Barium enema at the same time.

Here's my 2 cents.................DO IT!!!!!!!!! It's a small inconvenience compared to the possible outcome for not doing it. My mother died from colon cancer. If she would have done this procedure she would not have been through 9 years of chemo, pills, in and out of doctors offices, surgeries and still be here today..............................:(

Well, thanks to this forum and with a little help from Google I now know what a colonoscopy is.
Sounds like no fun at all.

Hah, no it was pretty funny. I did my best to crack jokes while he was working the scope ... managed to get a few snickers out of the nurse.

Yes, in all seriousness, it's important to do these things when necessary. Taking care of one's health is no joke.

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGHH - I CAN'T TAKE IT ANyMORE!!!!!!!!!

Threads on quitting smoking, the world cup and now this? Back to the guitars please!

YES! - these off topic things are hacking me off, I don't come here to learn about smoking, I don't come here to find out who's getting what rammed where....

if you're poorly zomby goodvibes and all the best, good vibes and I hope it all works out.... but I come to 'ball out' and drool over stuff I can't afford, if I overshare with you it's becuause I have concerns that I won't be able to buy balls as a result, but I'm here becuase I'm a an Ernie Ball Musicman nut - not becuase of the varied chat.

Don't get me wrong I love you guys, in a non lets take a shower type way, even Azzael has his moments now ;) - but come here to talk bally things - all this other stuff is just mince?

Sorry Zomby, this isn't entirely aimed at you - this is just a rant at all the off-topic stuff lately doing my head in !

and in my semi silent protest.... Here's the only Operating table I want to hear about !!!!!!!
