Last night it appeared as if my Sterling Silver Bongo 5 HH was three different other colors; green, purple and blue!

And I thought that the sound was it's only versatile attribute!

Crazy! Your white shirt stays white while your bass changes color, crazy. I once did sound for Stepanie Mills and she had her entire band and their instruments wearing grey. Whatever color lighting was on everything changed to that color. Kind of cool! Are you sure you don't have some custom painted bongos?

Yeah, like Mr. Sit would be able to keep THAT secret, or perhaps you haven't noticed his penchant for, let's saaaay, BRAGGING about his basses.

I'm just sayin'...

Sorry to be the downer amidst all the ooohs and aahhhs, but I have to ask. Are you not concerned about any long terms damages from some of those left and right hand techniques? Im being very serious here....

Thats really cool how a silver bass will pick up the colours of the stage lighting and change all night long. Very cool! Thanks for sharing and bragging! Thats what this forum is for!

Great question, actually.

Am I concerned? Absolutely! I've thought about it often.

In the first pic I'm playing with a pick and with my full hand over the top and in the second I'm playing over the top with just my thumb. My wrists are kept quite straight during these times. There's actually more bend in both of my wrists in the third picture where I can be seen playing standard finger pluck/standard fretting.

The height that I wear my bass allows me to keep both wrists reasonably straight most of the time. None of that "bass-under-the-chin" stuff for me! The over-the-neck playing is intermittent and constitutes a smaller percentage of my performance. I'm extemely conscious of how my hands/wrists happen to feel on any given day of my life. If I make any type of unnecessary movement while playing and sense any type of discomfort, I immediately refrain.

I'm 51 and have been working out (strength training) every other day for over 25 years. I'm assuming that this has helped to contribute to my flexibility as well as strength. My wrists and forearms hopefully benefit from this.

This is actually a good response and the type I was hoping to hear. Many years ago, I entered the online bass community (about 6 years ago) and I posted a couple live pics. At that time I was younger and way cooler and I wore my bass really low. A fellow forum member pointed out that I had my wrists in really bad position, and that it could cause long term problems. Not long after that (even as a young lad) I did indeed start having wrist issues which was horrific for me. I didnt and/or havent talked about it much but it has been an issue for me from time to time even now that I practice proper right and left hand technique. Old habits die hard and I still catch myself or see pics of myself going right back to my old habits.

I absolutely love those pics! I had actually been looking for pics just like those since I'm considering a sterling silver bongo. Now, I'm a little more sold on the silver! :D

Thanks, glad you like the pics. I think it's great that they are having a positive influence on your choice of color. You'll love Sterling Silver; it's a must-have for me.
