I would love to go to your fine country. I just have to get more mobile..Im all over the western usa all the time. South America is one of the places top on my list. My son Brian
and his wife leave in two weeks for Buenos Aires and Brazil.

The unfortunate perception with Americans is that Colombia is not safe for us. I do not believe that to be true.

Seriously That is on my bucket list!

I do not know if you heard Juanes

Is there an English only rule on this forum? if so, sorry, just practicing

Yes very obvious one....hehehe FOr those drenched in Marmite or vegimite Colombia has a product that they grow that is centered around crime and violence

Now how about not arguing with me and hijacking a very nice thread.

I stand corrected Australians dont know that Colombia is one of the worlds drug centers.

Plus Columbia isn't the most stable politically, again due to drugs.

Some of us know world politics.

No, that's wrong. First, we are talking about Colombia (not Columbia)
Colombia is politically stable. It's a democracy.
There are problems with drugs but I believe it's the same in every country (I believe there are some gangs in the US and people get killed :().
Beware of misconceptions. I worked there and people were very nice. The country is well organized.
During the 60's there was political trouble in Colombia ... but remember that during the 40's, Europe, USA, Japan, Australia ... were happily doing a world war.

South America is really a nice place. Of course, nothing is perfect there, but tell me where I can find a perfect country ?

Thanks Fbcir That is what I was trying to say in the beginning before I got lectured that Colombia has a reputation for crime and violence...I am also glad that some Australians know this.....

SOme of you can be real doorknobs.

Iam very sad!

but as I said my country has had many problems with violence and drug addiction, but I know that country does not have those problems, perhaps the United States is perfect? can not judge an entire country by the stupidity and bad acts of a few, in my case both my parents work with state and do very well, I'm not addict, I'm not violent and I have no problems of violence or any of those things, so for the readers of the forum and do not let Big Poppa damage the image of a country only by what they see on television because sometimes that is a lie and fit as they want, and do not see the true essence of what the country is!

I lived in Colombia (Bogota) for a while, in 1997, before moving to Ecuador for a few years...

At that time, the city wasn't very safe for Americans. The kidnapping rate for North Americans was rather high. My dad would jog, in the mornings. He was advised by the Colombian police to change his route every morning, otherwise he would be making himself an easy target. We had to travel in groups, etc.

BUT!!! The country IS beautiful. The people are incredibly warm and welcoming.

My dad lived there for a few months, in the late 70's. He went to study medicine... but his heart was moved by the street kids... 20 years later... my whole family moved to Colombia. My family is still in Ecuador (been there 0ver 13 years, now)... they have a school and orphanage. I LOVE South America -- the people, the landscape, the FOOD. Who knows... maybe I'll even be buried there...
