I know this comes up every few years - but if dead horses aren't good for beating, then what are they good for?! :)

I know a lot of options were announced as going to be discontinued soon - I'd like to argue in the opposite direction: How about a true EBMM Custom Shop?!

Actually, it already exists - but as a "stealth operation" for endorsed artists - well how about opening it up to the masses?

Some options would be relatively simple to implement (such as roasted or rosewood neck, maple or ebony fretboard), while others would be more challenging (I'd love to have a Blueberry Morse, others have expressed interest in spalted maple, etc).

I certainly understand the prices would be higher - and accept that - but right now the only option is to piece together guitars or make the mods yourself and that can be disconcerting when there's a guitar wandering around the planet with EBMM on the headstock which wasn't actually made by the company.

Can we have a show of hands for interest in this?

And, what do you say Big Poppa? Wanting to throw money at you for more guitar goodness! :)

Yes to the custom shop!

I am a player that has had to modify 1 existing EBMM model, acquire 2 EBMM reissues which are only available in Europe , and purchase 1 used EBMM guitar which is no longer in production to fit my needs. I consider myself beyond fortunate to have snagged the 2 reissue guitars that were only released in Europe. The fantastic folks at EBMM were beyond helpful, and I can't say enough positive things about them, and I certainly can not complain due to that. That's 4 guitar purchases, which are not currently in production.
So yeah, I'm all for the custom shop.

I've recently been looking into another brands custom shop due to EBMM not making the exact guitar I want atm. I do not think I am going to go that rout due to the unknown factor to be honest. But If EBMM had a custom shop, the trigger may have already been pulled. But I must stress that I would definitely rather pay EBMM than any another manufacturer due to my experience with and confidence in EBMM.

What I'd like to see:

1: Floyded luke, L1 Reissue
2: Axis with Recessed floyd.
3: EBMM Super strat, Alder body, HSS config, Recessed Floyd, with Subtle V neck profile, 1 5/8th" at the nut, etc...(see Number 1 above:D:D:D)
4: Choice of Recessed Floyd rose on any EBMM guitar
5: Choice of Luke neck on any EBMM guitar

Cheers,

Tom

Well I'd have two things to say to that:

1. EBMM already offers up a very wide assortment of guitars. Personally I have to really try hard to find something that already doesn't fit my needs both for substance and style.

2. I think it would add an echelon of status in the market above that which EBMM already enjoys. You gotta admit, "Custom Shop" has a lot of status associated with the label.

No need for a custom shop for me. I find that ebmm offers enough options plus bfr lines and pdn/limited edition intruments. Also i couldnt afford a custom shop ebmm. Might even bring down the quality of their normal production so no thanks.

Sander,

I'm a big fan of the PDN offerings - but you only get what's offered then, and only for a short period of time. I'd order a Morse Y2D in Neptune Blue *today* (or maybe even two of them), but can't...

I understand pricing may be higher, but I don't think they should quite making Ferrari's just because I can't afford one! :)

And I don't see how this would effect the quality of normal production? Sterling and crew have proven they've got that down to a science! Would be great to expand the EBMM market as a whole though...

Agree! With so many different models to choose from, and the BFR option and PDN runs, I just don't see a lucrative market for EBMM. We forumites are very passionate about our Balls, but I don't think we keep the company in business. No disrespect, just my opinion.:):)

In all honesty, a lot of the "Custom Shop" designated guitars you see are mass produced or special edition guitars no different than non-custom shop guitars sold in Guitar Center or other shops. They are not special or custom orders. You just pay more.

Maybe instead of a costly EBMM custom shop, there are more options to swap out parts via purchases at the EBMM web site -- I don't need it but it would be one alternative. Not that usually what it takes is to contact customer service and ask...

Well i'm not against a custom shop but i strongly believe that a company that slits up their production into different "classes" will also loose quality on the cheaper/lower ranked instruments. Musicman is one of the few that has not split up their production into different levels. Only sbmm has been added. But look at prs, fender, gibson, esp. They have so manny lines of instruments now with all different levels of quality controll. I'd rather keep it to "all ebmm guitars are perfect" then "custom shop is perfect, ebmm is great, ebmm 2 is ok, ....."

There is always a solution for those who want a custom EBMM : practice, play better, record cd's, sell 'em, play sold out concerts for years, become a F***ing legend...

Then and only then BP might consider building your own private model! I love it this way!

It looks like I have a lot of artist guitars that I use. I didn't get them because I adore the guitar player, it's more that the guitar sounds fantastic. Most guitar players could easily adjust to any kind of guitar that is not 100% to their spec, it's quite OK.
