It's a bitch, isn't it? The disease that never goes away ... :p

If you have an old Morse then I'd think a big difference would be the neck. But you have a new one, right? So you'll have the new neck profile which would be the same on the Y2D.

Cosmetically it's different, the switching is much simpler (1 5-way switch and no middle strat pickup), and the pickups are slightly lower as they've been made stronger (not sure if this is all of them or just the bridge HB).

Both Morses are aweome. I like the old switching better, but I like the simplicity of the new one as well. Guess that's why I have both

As for the Pet- have you tried one out yet? The neck is REALLY different from the Morse. (Actually you have a Jem, so you'd probably have no troubles.) A lot of cats love it, but I can't personally get used to it - I'm more from the Morse, Axis, Albert neck camp.

There are 4 more balls in da house since then - natural SR4, red Bongo5 Piezo, blue pearl AL and of course the Y2D ...

Gots to get going on those photos.

Hey beej thanks !

And talking about sound, the Y2D is too different ?

Now I'm more into Axis and Morse neck profiles, 21 or 22 frets than Big flat thin profiles and 24 frets.

To me this is = more sound.

Hey- no problem! (You just keep posting those killer sound clips of yours!)

Sound-wise, I don't notice much of a difference. I suppose the maple top should brighten it up a bit, bit I really don't hear that. The pickups are voiced the same way, and since I have them cranked up a bit on my old Morse I don't hear a volume difference. Lastly, it resonates just as well as the old one did, unamplified.

I do notice a bit of a feel difference, but that's just b/c I have an old 6-bolter with the square heel (and a custom neck profile courtesy of Tommy. Even then the neck profile isn't far off.)

I hear ya- 21/22 frets and some meat in the neck is just the ticket for me as well :D

Basically, if you love the other Morse then you'll love this just as much. Just cosmetically different and easier to switch.

I don't own either, but last time I saw the Dregs, Steve used both, and I was up close. I definitely noticed that the Y2D was noticeably, slightly brighter. It was a good A/B comparison, same player, amp, stage, speakers, etc.

Hehe ... I sneaked them into the collection. The Bongo was a GREAT eBay price a few months back - it was in Canada already and had a chip on the headstock. (There was a thread on the Bass side to the effect of "somebody in Canada better buy this quick". More bass than I need (5th string + piezo=beej bass confusion). But honestly, I LOVE the Bongo! It's such an easy bass to play and it just sounds tremendous. Really, really love it.

I bought the AL sight unseen off eBay last month (seriously, there wasn't even a picture. Just had a conversation with the seller and liked the price). Pearl blue, SSS, trem, no piezo, non silent circuit. Needed a lot of TLC - neck was dirty, frets corroded, etc. But after a good cleanup it's a beaut. Very fond of it; I just haven't gotten round to posting pictures!

Through the new amp (Guytron), the AL sounds like heaven. I've never been a big single coil guy, but man I can play that guitar all night long and it just sings! I see what everybody's been raving out now.

... And now, back to the Y2D thread ...

The Y2D morse model is absolutley amazing!

I was looking at the JP model but i really dont like basswood. I used Mesa Boogie Dual Rectrifiers for the longest time and the JP model sounds great through boogies but i always found them a little nasal sounding through Marshalls. I am now endorsed by Marshall and needed a guitar that sounded great. I tried the Y2D in a loud Band context and was literrally blown away with the tones i was getting.

I had the one with the floyd and changes it round for a hard tail. the floyd version was soooo heavey (weight) the hard tail is soooo light, its almost baffling to me. It weighs hardly anything yet it sounds so big round and fat in the midrange!

I always played Gibsons and PRS, everytime i would solo i felt compelled to boost the amps volume to cut through. However with the Y2D i feel that it cuts through the mix.

I also got to cop a feel of John Petrucci's Ball family reserve guitar backstage at wembley. He seemed really stoked about the guitar.

If i was to get another Musicman the BFR JP1 is what i would go for truly amazing!!!

Well i have one of the original morse (morse blue) with a floyd and let me tell you that i favor that guitar over my pets anytime...Now i like the feel and the sound of the pets too don't get me wrong, but the morse there is just something about it that makes me want to pick that up and play...My next EBMM will probably be a Y2D hard tail.

I loved the feel and tones of the SM. I'd love to pick up a Y2d (and a Bongo bass, and an amp and etc....), but w/ 2 guitar purchases this year and wanting a newer car than my 84 diesel w/ 300,000 + miles and no air, I might have to save for a car instead and put my G.A.S. on hold for a few years.

Greetings Luiz,

I genuinely feel your pain here. I was seriously in the market for a Standard Morse model. My birthday was coming up and I knew my wife would get me one. However, as she was looking online, she happened along a Y2D and really liked the looks of it. That's how she rolls. She judges guitars by their looks. I stuck to my guns and said I wanted a Standard Morse model. After asking the guys here about it, I decided to get the Y2D. It was a hartail model with a nice, tight flame. It felt and played awesome.

fast-forward to the end of the honeymoon period. I had had it a couple of weeks and was starting to regret not getting the Standard Morse model. Initially, I was posting so many threads here asking for help in making a decision between the two. I was posting even more PM's. I decided to let the Y2D go and look for a Standard model. For me, I believe the Standard model will better fit my style.

Good luck to you. The guys here are very nice and accommodating. They treated me very kind during all my posts about the Y2D vs. Standard Morse model dilemma.

Cheers,

You are right Colin, I will be back. Before this year I waited 2 years before buying a new Ball.
