ok, i see the bongo has one. but i have no idea what it does, or what its supposed to do, and how it does it. can someone help me? thank you.

i dont really see how that is. the scale length is the distance from the saddle to the nut correct? well the nut looks the same across. it just has dents in it where the string is on the fingerboard side. im still uncertain as to how it works. Derek? Bovine?

The hollow spaces you see change the point at which the string crosses the nut. Look at the D and the A string - see the difference?

This would probably make more of a difference for guitar players doing chord work, but does improve the intonation, especially up to and including the 5th fret (IME).
