I wonder if you can help me identify the Ernie Ball Music Man bass I just bought from a pawn shop. I play guitar and have a Music Man 112RD, and love it, but I'm trying to learn the bass. It is blue and has a neckplate number :B007716. From what I've been reading, the # sounds like a pre EB. However, it says Ernie Ball Music Man on the headstock. I'd love to know what year it was made. Thanks!!:D

That color doesn't look original, but nice and sparkly. Otherwise it's hard to be sure what you have without a full front and back shot. It could be a later headstock decal on an early neck or some combo of old and new parts.

I'm not an expert but we can see clearly that the truss rod adjustment is at the head in stead of being at the bottom of the neck ,so it's definitely a pre EB body with a pre EB neck and a pre EB neck plate and serial number,so the only odd thing here is the decal,Ithink the neck is probably refinished and had received a new decal by someone who doesnt care about details.

Cheers, Steve

It's a c.1978 Pre-EB Sting Ray refinished with a non-original colour. It's been fitted with a much latter Ernie Ball Sting Ray neck. Clear pickguards were not an option at the time either.

It looks darn good though!!!

Maybe I'm confused but this one has a 3 bolt neck plate on the picture and a current logo.

It's just what I think,I'm probably wrong!!:D

The ferrules for the strings on the back side of the body look to be missing. Probably from the repaint. Anyway, that colour looks cool.

The late 80's EB necks were similar to the peEB necks and also had the bullet truss nut at the headstock. All you need to do is drill the lower middle hole for the 3rd neck screw and it fits right on. If you remove the neck there will be 5 screw holes.
Yes, I agree the body is from '78, and has a late 80's EB neck fitted.
