My uncle has an upright. He will let me come to his house and play it. I tried it a couple times then I decided to fake it with the Jazz for the gigs. Those dudes are hard to play.

Good luck and you will get upright sound with an upright.

Ah...the old twelve string stingray ( in the pic ) . Anyway... the upright is a completely different instrument....it is in the violin family not the guitar family. I would suggest a teacher to learn playing posture and hand position. You can do damage to yourself with bad technique. It will take time to build up your hand strength. It is completely different.....and a lot of fun. They are miserable to lug around and you have various options when it comes to amplifying them. ( this is a whole other bag of wax). You will need to spend some serious time on the instrument before you are ready to gig on it. ( advice from someone who immediately started gigging on one with horrible technique.....and would not recommend that aproach to anyone)

That's the OLP Stingray 5 that he customized into a 12 string. I think he's posted photos here before.

In case anyone missed it first time 'round

Thanks,
Adam

Never played one before but some music we're doing on our praise team the end of November calls for upright (plucking only, no bowing). I want something that will be the easiest to adapt to and won't break the bank.
Current 5 string considerations are:
Dean Pace - about $800.00
Kydd - Carry On 30" scale - about $1650.00
Kydd - Big Kydd 35" scale - about $1800.00
There is a "custom made" 4 string on ebay for $849.00 B.I.N.

Hey Spectorbassguy -- Zeta bass on eBay...

My Zeta is the old style alder-bodied one. This is a new one: swamp ash... new preamp... mmm... pretty reasonable BIN price too.
