Hey PM me your email and I'll send you an mp3 I made with a Humbucker from Hell in the neck. It will give you a good idea what to expect if you go that route.

Why not installing a push/push pot for coil splitting? Ok, you won't get the original strat-ish sounds, but maybe that is sufficient for you.

I am very pleased with my ASS. By the way I exchanged the neck humbucker to a Dimarzio Virtual Vintage. This thing adds alot of sparkle and top end to neck sounds, not near as dull as the original (which is still a formidable pup on its own). And it also "strattens up" the parallel single coil sounds.

You will be gaining customization and a better fit for yourself.

You will be losing resale value.

Adding another guitar for single coil like a Silo Special would be the best solution if money was no object.

If you love your guitar and have no plans on ever selling it, then do it and enjoy.

While history is rife with epic design failures, it's also rife with experiments gone right!! Without people having a crack at stuff like this we would never have ended up with the morse model... Even when he had the morse model, what did he do when he broke his fretting arm? - shaved the corner off the guitar’s neck heel with a bench grinder!!!

This is true. But one thing to consider is that Mr. Morse could get any number of replacements for free if he wanted or needed to.

This is your #1.....there is a reason it is your #1......think twice.....unless you have some deep pockets or a mm sponsorship.

If you do it, keep us posted.

I say DO IT!!!

If this the guitar you've gotten attached to then you won't be parting with it anyway!
So if this single coil sound in the neck position is what you're missing on that particular guitar, then go ahead.

If you're not ABSOLUTELY SURE though, then I would try out the other suggestions like the DiMarzio Humbucker from Hell or the Duncan StagMag prior to making any non-reversable changes.

Rock on!

Wow, certainly a topic to get people to voice their opinion.

I have already modified it with a pushpull pot, to split the humbuckers, and I've wired it so the inner coils are active, to make it more "stratty", and reversed the two humbuckers magnetic and electric phase, to make them humbucking in the center position. It sounds pretty stratty already, I am just considering the middle pickup to add to the versatility.

I just assembled a nice HSS strat, so I will wait a while and consider. A very reasonable point, as someone said, is that I could potentially destroy the sound that I adore, by routing the middle of the guitar. As much as I like modding (I ought to show you some of my projects), perhaps I should just let it be - it IS an amazing guitar as is.

Thanks for your opinions.
