I've been using an Ampeg BA112 for practice at home with my Ken Smith BT5G & MMSR5 Fretless. It just bugs me that the BA112 can't keep up, especially with notes below low E. So I think it's time to upgrade.

I've heard good things about the Mag 300 series combo amps. I like the sound of a 15 so I'm thinking about the 1x15 + tweeter arrangement. I play all fingerstyle and some slap and pop and def use the low B string a lot. The amp is very reasonably priced and appears to be good. 300 watts into a single 15.

Any thoughts? Can you testify, brother?

I practice with the same amp I play with, which is 1200 watts.

I don't really need that much for practice, but what the hell.

I have an Eden WT-400 on the way, though. I think that will be less frightening for my wife.

I tend to practice without any amp at all, which still annoys my other half...

I just found out that they are a brand new model being built in China under Ashdown supervision. Maybe that's why the street price is only $399.00. It will be a few weeks before stores have them.

And 300 watts for a practice amp? Why not? The name of the game is headroom, baby! Besides, neither my wife nor my dogs mind (Good thing we live in the country)
My wife probably WOULD draw the line at that big Ampeg Monster though!

I was very pleasently surprised when I saw the MAG C115 300 Combo for sale at £310 on a dealer website.

Ashdown have been getting a very good reputation in the UK in the past couple of years and as I am going to have to replace my Hartke Kickback 12" in the next 12 months, I am seriously considering a Mag 300 combo after all my research. Seems excellent value for money.

If they have shifted production out to China, then I hope that the production standards are maintained.

The only complaint I have about the 1x15" is that it comes with a carrying strap on the top and not side handles - I hate that and so do my knees.

Let us know if you decide to get it as you can be my guinea pig.

Cheers and Happy St Patricks Day to everyone.

Ashdown have a very good reputation in the Uk. I think it helps that the guy who i think started the company off is originally from Trace elliot. They seem to be getting more and more pro bassists signing up with them as well like the guy from System of a down and such..

Matt, any idea what was so contraversial about the SOAD bass players photo for the Ashdown Advert? - I never saw it.

I'm pretty sure I'll get it, as long as the wifey OK's it!:p It looks to be too good a deal to pass up, and I really do like the sound of a good 15. Besides I can probably get a decent dollar out of my BA112.

Great Deal!!

$399 converted into UK£ would be very cheap indeed - if we could only buy from a US dealer and get it shipped back for free!!

The cheapest I have seen the 1x15 quoted in the UK is £310, which is nearer USD $600!!!

I was checking that one out myself since I played a EB 12 one day and thought it had a good tone. I totally don't need it though but the price is real good. (Classic example of GAS).

Lync

I wonder if it is made in the same factory as the Behringer head which is a copy of an Ashdown Mag head?
