Alex will probably answer you... 6 months from now. LOL He has responded to me, but I'm imagining that it takes him a while to sort through all the personal emails he gets.

I'll look for it, but I once found an advert for Al Pitrelli's lessons and how to contact him for them.

Back when I took some lessons from Alex in the 1990's, I found his ad in BAM formerly "Bay Area Music." I guess it's just BAM now.

J.P. has tons of instructional tools availible. enough to keep any serious guitarist busy for years.
as does steve morse.
:)

You're so right. I got his stuff, and man, it will take me years until I can just start doing some of that stuff. I got Troy Stetina's "Speed Mechanics for Lead Guitar," because I understand that my underlying technique is such garbage that I have to really build up from the basic stuff like finger independence, which starts on the first page. I'm struggling to get past that page in the fashion that I think I ought to.

Its best to get a great player to teach her the ropes and then she should Try to play with her ears u know,

Some of the best guitar players i have ever met all just developed their own styles but not trying to dissect the theory behind it.

Yngwie Malmsteen,

Van Halen

Jeff Beck

Slash

Its all good!

For my money though all those DVD's by Frank Gambale, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Steve Morse, Doug Doppler are all really great.

I still learn from them all the time and i have had some of them for years

We already know how to play like today's Schenker.----I hope he gets his crap together soon for his own sake. I sure loved his playing.

I think that the closest player to petrucci is Marco Sfogli for sure.

Also Rusty Cooley

What kind of stuff does your sister want to learn?

It really helps to have a great mentor on guitar, Kind of like a Yoda to your Luke Skywalker.

Pete Southern from UK Prog metal band 'Balance of power' is like my Obi Wan Kenobi. like right before the solo break on stage he comes to me in a calm voice and says "use the harmonic minor luke..."

Talking of famous people I met the British Prime Minister Gordon Borwn on Thursday at work!

I heard Tony Blair is a guitarist maybee he would be up for teaching guitar now he has retired.

I nearly shat myself.

I think he was saying "use the harmonic minor ON a LUKE "

John doesn't teach anymore and hasn't since around the early 90's, but this is probably the number one request we get. I even had one guy offer to fly him to Asia somewhere to give him a lesson. Yikes! :)

He's not really "contactable" so to speak because it became overwhelming. We had an email years ago, but the requests became so many and so detailed and so demanding that we removed it. And honestly, many of the people were offended when he didn't respond to them personally, even though he's looking at an Inbox of hundreds of emails all politely asking for some personal favor and/or attention. So one minute you're somebody's hero and the next you're a jerk because you didn't personally respond to their detailed request about every Triaxis setting used on Images and Words. It puts guys like JP in a lose lose position, even though we know he doesn't mean to slight anybody. He's at home so little and just needs to spend that time with his family and doing the normal day to day things any other homeowner and family man would do.

John may not be as famous as a Keith Richards or a Brian May, but his fanbase his full of musicians who seek a musical and/or guitar connection with him be it instruction, gear, production etc. So I think there's just a very high concentration of people who want his advice and take on things. It's certainly understandable, but I just thought I'd mention some of these things in an attempt to explain the situation.

paul

Hi Paul,
thanks for the insight view :) I understood completely, it's impossible for him to teach anymore.. btw--Paul, is it possible that there's another FreakFoot II :D and yeah I've missed Andy Timmons last time, but lucky me.. I met him in Dallas 2 weeks a go..and I'm having a GREAT time! :D

To Joel,
If you live in NY, I suggest you to contact Ron Thal (Bumblefoot/GNR) he's the real deal ! his music changes my life forever! good luck my friend.

Michael Schenker is giving lessons ;)

He is one of my favourite players. I have MSG Live at the budokan and pretty much learnt how a master of vibrato operates from it. I was going to try and have him on my radio show but the boss said that he can be quite a hard guy to interview sometimes.

Same with my buddy Paul from the 'quireboys'. He used to play on tour with MSG bac in the 80's and said he was the best player he had ever seen on some nights.
!
Funnily enought I was asked to go and try out for Michael Shenker's sisters band called Viva. Its like euro power rock/metal. It seemed like a fun gig but i have loads of other kewl stuff in the pipeline.

Anyone wants to play in a band with Michael Shenkers sister then I might be able to hook you up. She is a great keyboardist.

self promotion flag is up again.....what was the topic chris?

Please understand that if efverybody was reasonable in their demands on JP and others access would be easier. I know from my inbox...If JP makes himself abailable he will have a new full time job and the requests keep getting deeper and deeper

BP,

they were just talking about other great players who might be tempted to teach as JP is clearly a fully fledged guitar hero now!

Someone mentioned Michael Shenker is giving lessons (bit of a red herring), I am a huge fan of Shenker who tried to get in touch with him earlier in the year.

I am not trying to promote myself or anything, I am just saying his sister has rock band now.

Sorry BP, I seem to keep getting into trouble. I am quite new to the forum so I am just getting used to the etiquette of posting.

--Yea It seems like DT are getting bigger and bigger on the release of every album.

Its really cool that they are gathering appeal amongst the general music audience, i suppose its just their massive carreer span. There is an album there for eveyone. JP is a fully fledged guitar great now. However some music schools hold clinics every now and again with great players like him.

Rock Discipline DVD pretty much covers all the bases.

Another great tutor on videos and stuff which is similar to JP is Andy James. (Stunning player, great feel, and a good teacher on videos etc)

This has to be one of the strangest thread I've seen in awhile.

That being said, I need some financial advice. Does anyone have Donald Trump's phone number?

We must have ESP, because I was just thinking of how weird of a request this is, and that it would be asking for Donald Trump to be my real estate agent.
