I just found this today while searching for info about the Neptune Blue PDN Bongos. I know there was a super nice one with an amazing flamed neck that was sold to a guy in Hungary. Not sure if this is his recording but it sounds great!! There are a few different cuts within this recording - with different playing styles etc. Sounds to me like this could be have been recorded with flat EQ. Anyway...it really demonstrates the clarity of the tone from this bass - especially near the end of the recording.

I am hearing alot of fret buzz or fretting sounds....

True....you kind of have to listen "around" that. Maybe he needs a setup....But the general tone is well captured I think. The beginning part doesn't really make me jump for joy (I think he could use some Cobalts!!!) but the later parts are great.

BTW...you should really listen to it on a good set of headphones/IEMs to get the best experience. Laptop speakers are definitely not going to do it justice.

I think it sounds great. Listen to lots of great bass recordings, be it Alice in Chains, The Cure or Nirvana, the Bass has fret buzz, and it just adds to the character of it. In the mix you barely hear that noise, and it certainly won't annoy anyone.

I mean by the basslines he's playing he is not exactly playing jazz, sounds to me like some alternative rock or even prog metal.

Yeah I totally agree. A lot of times the buzz is part of the charm. Maybe not if you're playing jazz...as you say, but for rock it's not that unusual and sometimes sounds cool. Gives it more edge.

+1 This slight fret buzz gives the tone a nice grit. That in conjunction with a warm slightly overdriven preamp tube á la EBS Valvedrive. Mmmmh! Like it!
