I've got the Cornford Mk50 head Mark II - the one with the clean channel and its awesome.

I've also just bought a Mesa Boogie Stiletto Ace Combo - it's also awesome.

Hope that helps...;)

Seriously, I thought I preferred the OD channel on the Cornford until I heard the Mesa Boogie by A/B testing - they're both great but very different. I then hit on the idea of an amp signal splitter and play them both at the same time...the best of both worlds.

The Cornford is mellower, with a rounder sound than the Mesa, but the Boogie bites and cuts through like nothing I've heard from them before, and is especially good if you downtune your guitars.

The clean channels on both amps are lovely - sort of a Fender/Vox hybrid on steroids and much more magical than most clean channels on these sort of amps.

The Cornfords are more complex than you may think, especially the Mk50 Mark II which has 2 channels, OD, two channel-assignable FX loops, two master volumes and a big footswitch. Mesa's often have a lot of features, which some people love and which others find frustrating as there can be too much choice. If you get a Mesa, you need to spend some time getting your sound right, as the tone controls are very sensitive and with all the options available you can feel a bit bewildered. They do represent good value.

Both manufacturers have superb reputations and the amps are handbuilt (Cornfords have point to point wiring and no PCBs) and use top quality components.

Enjoy choosing!

I play a Kotzen Cornford awhile back (a friend of mine is the rep) and while it was nice, I don't think I'd be able to justify the expense... I should try one of the standard models

+1

I've had my Stiletto Ace combo since July and for my ears and perception, it is the finest amp I've had yet for tone. Hot, sweet and juicy! Last week I sat it beside a Dual Rec combo and you just couldn't beat it.

I think you should get what moves you most.

I agree, sit them next to each other and then let your ear be the judge, and it's great and all you asking people here what they think on each amp, but it's personnel taste, you're gonna get answers all over the board, me l've never tried Cornford before, but l hate Mesa amps, l'll go in to detail why l don't, but there's no point.

Good luck,

Scott.

I think i will hunt down alot of these amps and get a shot of them all. it will be a bit harder trying to get them side by side in the same shop but if i really like one i suppose it will stick in the back of my head when im playing something diffrent.

Jamie,

I take over Machinehead in Hitchin on the 27th of November.

We have a Dual Rec in stock, also got amps coming in by Two Rock and Divided by 13. We quite often get Cornfords in part-ex, may even look to do some new.

Give us a call and arrange a visit (you can fly Sleazyjet from Scotland to Luton pretty cheaply)

The tele is great....The neck is bigger than people say it is!! Its a 50's style neck. The frets are the biggest i have ever had. Great for bending and pinched harmonics. The tone control is the secret weapon. It is actualy a switch that turns the pups out of phase. Best thing about it----it dosent play or sound like a f£nd£r.

Thanks Jonny, i was so keen on a Kotzen tele about 18 months ago, but the balls have kept rolling! The good thing is that the Kotzen tele is pretty cheap, from Japan and all, so if i did want one it wouldne set me back so much.

But an AL must come first!!!!!! Several in fact!
