I was bored the other day and had a crunchlab sitting out of a guitar for probably 6 months now. I do have one guitar with a crunchlab currently in it, but was considering trying to get it to have a slightly different flavor. As of late I have been into the Seymour Duncan TB14 Custom 5 and the Pegasus. Which that got me thinking, what if I swapped the ceramic magnet out for an A5 magnet that I have laying around. So I did, and I recently put it in, and I must say, that is my new favorite pickup all over again.
It seems to have slightly lower output, less compression, a bit more bloom to the sound, a tad less highs. It gave the low mids even more authority and it gave the high mids a nice presence, and it is slightly looser sounding. I've not heard of anyone doing this to their crunchlab and I think it is amazing. Simply everything that I loved about the duncan pegasus and custom 5 just infused with the crunchlab.
I think others should give it a try if you haven't already!
