Can a EBMM neck be too straight? I understand that there should be some forward bow to ensure that the strings ring properly. My bass is set up as follows (string lenght from bottom of string to top of fret) on the E
2nd fret 1.30 MM, 12th fret 2.00 MM, 17th fret 2.4 MM. Don't get me wrong it plays wonderful, but after checking releif, I swear the neck is almost perfectly straight. I used a 24" straight edged ruler for reference. I have never touched anything on the bridge and have only adjusted the T-rod approx bi-annually (maybe 6-8 times) Just wondering if I should add some releif to maintain proper tension on the neck or is this perfectably acceptable.
Cheers and Thanks
PS, Happy Thanksgiving to all US members, families and friends !

If it plays the way you want it to, IMHO you don't mess with it. To me, measurements are just ballpark dimensions to get it close and then you go by feel.

Also it depends on how you play. I had one bass that I kept set up with a (nearly) straight neck, hardly any relief at all, which was fine for sitting around at home, playing along with CDs and so on. Live, with a drummer and other noise-makers, I tend to dig in fairly hard so that bass really didn't work for that. Light touch, straight neck, no probs.

Good Call! I too have done this. I liked to call it my "Potatoe Bass". I could even play it in the full recline position, or "Joe Cocker " style (minus the barf , of course).

I think Lord Bongo explain everything very briefly, simple and correct!

I wrote recently on other Thread about my personal "straight" neck setup, I like it that way and period.

As long as bass doing it just fine and You like it, everything is OK!

I think that bass setup is very personal matter anyway! ;)

Thanks to all for chiming in. It is set quite low, and I do play rather light, thus all good.
Cheers !

Setup is a very personal thing. The necks on all my basses are pretty much straight. With a finger on first and last fret there is about a thick business card thickness at around the 12th fret. All my basses are used live where I dig in a little more. I don't measure or get too technical about it but I would consider my action low.
