I really have seen a picture of every bass I am interested in and don't need to be told the difference between front and back rear or forward.

that one is testy I admit. :)

Did anyone answer the original post in this thread?

That's because you would be talking about the BACK of the bass....not the rear.
And in the nutzo land of basspeak, the opposite of the 'Back' is not the 'Front'. The side opposite the 'Back' is the 'Top'. However, since the 'Endpin' is on the 'Rear Bout' but no one calls it the 'Rearpin', I think the confusion over 'Front and Rear' PU's should be encouraged, don't you?

I think we should refer to the areas of basses as forward, aft, starboard, & port. :D
What about the guys that play Porty axes? Isn't this a sort of triangulated form of inverse rediscrimination?

And wouldn't the bridge area be misnamed? The zone occupied by the stoptail and saddles [formerly the bridge] would now be either the poop or the helm. Do you really want to tell your luthier to "Rout the Poop for a BadAss"?

"Scotty, report to the bridge. There's Klingons in my saddles!" WHoaaaaa.....
