How does one go about custom ordering a custom built musicman axis or super sport? Do we have to go to the dealer and order one, or can we just call up ernie ball?

Orders have to be placed through your local EBMM dealer.

In terms of "custom" ... you can order any instrument with the available options, but you can't order something that's not offered. In other words ... there's no custom shop, though there are a zillion stock options.

define custom built.

they don't have a custom shop, though there are many many many combinations and options you can get when ordering a guitar.
you would do that through a dealer.

Well, with the Axis Super Sport, you have 16 colors, with the Axis Super Sport BFR you have 3 more colors (the Cherry Burst exists in standard and BFR model).
After that you can choose the pickups (MM90 or HH with the Super Sport), the matching headstock, the tremolo.
Well, it's quite a lot of combination ...

Yep, no white. The Reflexes are offered in white, though, and share a lot of similarities. Might be worth looking in to.

There are a few Sports out there in white ... could always keep your eyes open for one of them.
