I'm interested in this as well . . . especially in central Texas. I would like to have inlay work done on the headstock of a Tele neck that will be arriving soon; part of my Tele partscaster project.
I sent an email to Hill Country Guitars in Wimberley (TX) yesterday and hope to hear from them soon. Tony Nobles is associated with them in some way. I understand he is a high-end luthier and he should be able to do quality inlay work if he has the time or inclination.
I might contact Collings Guitars here in Austin, too, if I don't hear back from HC. Collings may be able to recommend a skilled inlay artist.
Anyone know of someone who does quality inlay work in or around Austin?
I talked to my friend at Jason's Guitars over lunch and he recommended Mark Erlewine here in Austin. Jason said something about Erlewine doing inlay for Billy Gibbons recently and his list of famous customers is long. I was told he is more expensive than most, but is meticulous in his work.
When the time is right, I'll work through Jason to get a bid from Mr. Erlewine. I trust Jason to steer me right.
