Hey Guys,

Just wondering if music man do custom built guitars? For example a silhouette special with a floyd trem and birds eye maple neck? Do they do special orders?

Cheers

Matt

No, there is no custom shop. There are already so many options ...
OK, if your name is John Petrucci or Joe Bonamassa, perhaps you can ask for a custom model, otherwise it will be tough !

Mike, is it an AL BFR HH Pinkburst that would hit that spot for you? Lol, hint #209. I bet you'd get two if they were to come out.

There have been one off's before. To become a bona fide "Custom Shop" would break them. Re-setting the tooling alone probably is a big factor to build just one guitar. I mean there are options with each model to choose from and there are many. Been said a million times by Big Poppa before. Not gonna happen. Nice to dream though.

All I want is a Reflex with the 5 way moved a little forward approx where it is on a Morse. I've seen a youtube video of Steve playing a game changer prototype with the 5 way where it is on HIS guitars....Then I might quit missing my pickup changes!

To be fair that was either on a BFR, a ltd edition or an axis with a premium top upgrade that was an option before the BFR line came out.

While we understand that every ebmm is built to order that does not mean that they are all "custom built" in the normally accepted custom shop meaning. If you have the money you as a regular member of the public can order today a prs with mammoth ivory inlays or a gold leaf coated fender strat with a tele bridge if that floats your boat, but that level of factory customisation is not what ebmm do.

Not bashing EBMM as their guitar line is great and they have a business to run their way, I'm only pointing this out before some of you mislead the original poster! ;)

There are custom shops out there who will do whatever it is you want. EBMM is not a "Custom Shop" in the sense of being built however you want.

The neck plate. Yep, got that too. That does not make EBMM a Custom Shop. That makes that particular guitar Custom Made. BIG Difference.

We all know where Sterling stands on this subject-But never say never! Aren't Scotty and Dudley experimenting on custom designs? I have to disagree with you here Koogie as that guitar Scott and Dudley made was more complex then assembling anyother guitar in the line- Smaller scale length, Set Neck and the beveling on the body made for a very technically built ax.

Like Sterling says -What If. That is all I am talking about so I do not want this to turn into anything nasty! But go outside of this forum to the really big neutral forums such as HC or the GP and every thread about EBMM guitars outside of the original subject will merge into the same posts of guys talking about the guitars being on par with Boutique builds and a ton of guys wishing they offered a CS or the least a few neck options. As the posts will start morphing into a lot of guys stating they are 6'5 and have huge hands. I have big hands but not long fingers so the neck as suit me perfectly. But if all that business is out there especially today when a 2 or 3 new builders appear each month I dont understand why not capitalize on it. It may be too much of a headache forming a CS that will do everything from scratch and slow down progress. But 2 or 3 neck options I personally feel would be no issue at all and would be very successful. The Dark Lord showed that putting on a neck with bigger specs than the norm was no problem. I have no dog in this fight so what do I really have to gain from this (maybe a few JP's with bigger necks and the BFR Pinkburst AL HH Mario mentioned lol). beej could attest to everything I stated as we meet up on a lot of the same threads and it is not 3 or 4 guys stating this but a hell of a lot.

My latest BFR was ordered in April and is due to arrive in 2 weeks. Production of a "made to order BFR" is a 3 month process. Reason being is that EBMM sets aside all choice wood until orders can be satisfied. Wood selection is a meticulous process; one that will be worth the wait.....
Custom made? I'll say....

I think that what some poster before was trying to point out was that while EBMM certainly does "Custom Made" guitars, they do not provide a "Custom Shop" per say. You can not, for instance, choose what type of body wood and what type of neck wood you want to combine for your guitar.

That said though, I have to just make myself clear that EBMM run their business the way they want to, and obviously it is going very well, otherwise they would probably have revised their business-model. Not providing a Custom Shop is their choice. At the end of the day we can argue about this as much as we want. But the facts still stand; No you can not order a custom Music Man guitar - as in a guitar that you put together yourself(Custom Made != Custom Shop), at least not at the time of writing this. And that's that.

Yep,
You're right. I accepted this a while back. While it's disappointing, it would be nice to have a hard tail BFR Axis.:(:(:(

I don't really care about "custom" EBMM guitars... most are great the way they are. However, I would love to see the additional option of an all Rosewood neck or Roasted Maple neck as a standard option. Would love me a BFR AL with an all rosewood neck or a Silo Spec with a roasted maple neck.

Lest we not forget in the arena of "customs", the Premier Dealers' Network special runs and other LEs that pop up from GC or what have you...
