Also Scott, is that the same color that was discontinued under the name fire engine red or is there a difference between the two? I ask because my local music store had a FER Sterling and it looked SO good.

so are they pieced together like inlays in a fretboard?

Looking at it, I'd say that the top layer of the pickguard (e.g. black) is milled to show the second layer (e.g. white). I'd love to have such pickguards with our band logo... I even had the idea of getting a real chrome pickguard with our band logo milled into it, but a local shop quoted me about USD 600 for such a guard, so I dropped the idea immediately... I wonder how much the milled plastic would cost...

I really like that flat black. I think that finish would be cool with the pinstripes shown on the BFR Sterling.
